Kidrobot has announced their 20" Dunny for this year, and I really don't know how to feel. I knew this was coming from quite some time ago (October or so) when Amanda Visell was posting paintings of this Dunny all over her Twitter and Facebook, which she only does if it's box art for something, and now that this Dunny is finally here, it seems a bit hum-ho.
When I first saw the original design for this on a custom 3" Dunny in a Kronikle video, I couldn't wait for it to appear in Dunny Fatale, which it did, but when I finally got my hands on one, it just didn't have the charm or sponge-painted detail of the original, and this 20" rendition seems to retain even less of that detail. Also, it seems a bit odd that out of all of the designs that Kidrobot had to choose from, they went with this one; people are already complaining that they're releasing too many pieces with Visell and this isn't helping matters.
If you do want this Dunny, as it is still pretty cute and is a Zebracorn after all, it'll be available April 1st for $350 and will be a run of 200. Personally, I'm really saddened that they didn't go with the Tara McPherson design as it's a much better design and was originally designed on a 4 foot tall Dunny, not to mention the large accessories would be AMAZING, but I guess we'll just play the waiting game until next year to see what Dunny Kidrobot rehashes as a 20" version next time.
