I like to play pretend, sure. It is why we collect toys in the first place! So when I saw this thing,
the District 9 Arc Generator, I thought I could write about it. Sure, a videogame might let you relive movie scenes, but
District 9 didn't have one. So you want to pretend to be an alien from the movie? Buy this thing.
Did you guys actually see that movie
District 9? It was by the guy who did some Halo commercials that had these real life Halo guys running around. The movie was actually really cool with lots of special effects and like Iron Man, some very cool scenes that were straight out of a mecha anime. I liked that movie and if this thing wasn't NZD$710.22 expensive, whatever NZD means, I would totally want one.
Unfortunately, the guns are sold out, but the remaining stock of 200 is to be sold off at conventions. That's a shame. But it makes me wonder one thing: do people really bring that much money with them to conventions just walking around? I guess they would have to have credit card machines right? Nobody just walks around with that much money, do they? I don't know I never been to a convention before with that kind of cash myself. Paper or plastic, either one!
More information about the gun after the jump!
Wikus van der Merwe finds out the hard way that a measure of Alien DNA makes powering up and firing one of these babies a real doddle.
Sometimes, ignorance is bliss.
An EXACT replica of the guns used in Neill Blomkamp's District 9, designed by Dr Grordbort's designer Greg Broadmore and modelled on the actual props created by the artists and craftspeople at Weta Workshop. This gun comes battle worn, alien gunk oozing out of its couplings and all the scratches and markings you'd expect from tough action in District 9 and by handling by Nigerian gun runners.
It's made mainly from glass fibre, with some details made from other materials, like plastic tubing etc where necessary. It comes with a wall mounting bracket for display.
PLEASE NOTE: Unless your genetic makeup is part prawn, you cannot power up or fire this gun.
This limited edition prop replica is one of the first in a range of District 9 items from Weta.
