Diamond Select Toys' third series of their Universal Monsters Minimates is now hitting retail and is also available through some sites (mostly the Toys "R" Us one). As previously revealed, this year's monster movie selections are the Universal Studios classics The Mummy (sorry, no Brandon Frasier!) and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Toys "R" Us will be the first "victim" of these monsters, as it will be attacked by four 2-packs in the form of the Mummy with his sarcophagus, Quasimodo (the hunchback) with Phoebus, the Toys "R" Us exclusive black & white Quasimodo with Mummy set, and a Princess Anck es en Amon with a Toys "R" Us exclusive Henry Whemple.

Specialty retailers (comic book shops, etc) will carry two different movie-dedicated 4-packs. The Mummy pack will include The Mummy, Princess Anck es en Amon, the Mummy's Sarcophagus and a set-exclusive Helen Grosvenor while the The Hunchback of Notre Dame pack will contain Quasimodo and Phoebus as well as the set-exclusive Esmerelda and King of Fools Quasimodo. I'd say that the specialty retailers make out a little better since the Hunchback set seems to contain more must-owns.

Personally, I'll probably only bother picking up the Mummy and sarcophagus pack although the Mummy 4-pack seems a respectable value. Other than the Disney film, I've never been a fan of The Hunchback of Notre Dame (neither the book, the Universal Studios movie, nor Notre Dame the cathedral or the college). Do any of these spook you guys the right way?
