Tonner Doll Company shows off their DC Stars line photo

You may have guessed this about me, but I'm a guy. An awesome, manly guy. With a physique like a bear even. Yeah, like I said, you already guessed this about me, but I have to preface anything I say with the "I'm a guy" statement since I'm going to talk about dolls, specifically dolls made by Tonner Doll Company. I was already aware that Tonner would be getting a shot at the ladies of Marvel, but I was blissfully unaware that they were also working on more women of the DC Universe for their DC Stars line of dolls.

A gaggle of girls was announced for the line just this weekend during Toy Fair 2011, including Catwoman, Wonder Woman, Raven, Starfire, Black Canary, and Dove. Catwoman is 13" and will cost US$169.99, Raven and Dove both stand at 16" and cost US$199.99 each, Starfire is slightly taller at 17" but only costs US$159.99, Black Canary reaches 13" and costs a simple US$149.99, and Wonder Woman towers over them all at 22", costing US$349.99. Okay, apologies for the information glut. Dude talkin' 'bout dolls here, so your patience is much appreciated.

Enough of this, I'm a comic fan, so I know DC girls. And these DC girls are boring. Dolls are perfectly cool, fascinating in their depth in the face of simplicity and all that jazz, but comic book characters do not translate well into the realm of dolls. Remember, bulletproof dude shield is up, so doll enthusiasts, your weapons are useless right now.

Their hair looks weird, their faces look dull, and their costumes make their crotch areas look trashy. Fine, I'd purchase Raven, but only because she has such pretty hair and a cute outfit. Damn, broke my dude shield with that last one. Oh well, it was for the best. What's your opinion of these Tomopeeps? A must-purchase or a definite-skip? That comments section isn't just there for show you know.

MOAR Toy Fair:

Legacy Comments

Starfire is probably the worst of the bunch. That face is, I dont know.
Her looks really pretty at the same time as it looks shorter and wider than what I thought Wonderwoman would look like.
I don't get the painting of the lips on these. Compared to the detail of the eyes and the softness you get in the blush, the lips are lacking. : /
Why doesn't Tonner ever hit you guys up with review samples? They heap them onto other review groups >_<

Although I like all of these characters, can't say I like the dolls much. Starfire's costume didn't come out all that well but I otherwise like the general look. Her face looks a little mean, but it doesn't really detract from the doll. I absolutely hate Wonder Woman's face, which just looks weird. The cape is really neat, though, and everything else looks okay (albeit somewhat comparable to the RA WW which retails for a helluva lot less).

Black Canary really isn't filling out her costume there. She's probably one of the most voluptuous DC characters but the doll looks downright scrawny. The Catwoman is laughably bad. Hate that headsculpt plus the whole costume doesn't fit her well. Not too familiar with Dove, but she doesn't look too bad. The definite winner in the set is Raven. Although I'm more used to a purplish outfit, the black still works and the whole ensemble looks decent.

And I have to agree that the lips could use work for all of them.
