Tomopop Review: DIY Zukie photo

When we first found out that Zukie was going to become a DIY toy I was very excited, and then even more so when I found out the release date was so soon! May 25th is the big day for the release of the DIY Zukie, but we were lucky enough to get our hands on one early!

I've always loved the simplistic nature of Zukie since we started posting them here, so let's take a peek and see how he turned out in a larger vinyl form. Hit the jump to see what the newest entry to the DIY world looks like!

Figure Name: DIY Zukie
Figure Maker: Alison Perez
Retail/List Price: US$9.95
Available at: Zukie Art Store

DIY Zukie

When he first arrived in my mailbox he came in quite the adorable box. Even if it's just a simple stamp, it brings so much joy to what would otherwise be just a standard brown box. Let's look inside shall we?

DIY Zukie

What's this? Well! It's another box! We're getting closer to seeing Zukie himself, but first we have to take a peek at this adorable Zukie box. There's so many of them on there! It also shows a lot of the expressions we've seen in previous works of Alison's, and even some we haven't.

DIY Zukie

As you can see, this is clearly an art collectible and not a toy! More importantly though, it gives the credit to Alison Perez, who is the wonderful artist that designed Zukie in the first place. It lists that you can learn more on the blog as well as buy things from the store.

DIY Zukie

Upon opening the box we can see that Zukie is housed carefully in clear plastic inside. He was easy to get out of the packaging, and it left no marks or scuffs that would cause a problem for when you went to customize him.

DIY Zukie

Look at him! Isn't he just adorable standing there by his box? He does indeed measure around 4 inches tall like we had been told in the teaser information. He'll look great among any future customization projects you may have in your collection.

DIY Zukie

In this view you can tell more easily that his eyes do stand out from the face a little, which is nice and gives it quite a bit of character already for just being blank. His arms and legs are both sculpted as well, so even though you can't move them like you can in some custom pieces, they definitely give you a lot of options as to what you can do with them. His head is movable, however, so you can do something with that for sure.

DIY Zukie

Here we've got the behind view, and I have a complete and full turn around for you in the gallery if you click through the photos. He looks just as adorable from behind as he does the front.

DIY Zukie

When you flip him over you get to see the classic Zukie logo on the bottom of his foot as well. I love this extra detail, but I also love the Zukie logo itself, so it's a win-win in my book. I seriously can't wait to decide what I'm going to customize him into and get started!

DIY Zukie

I want to give a huge thanks to Alison for sending the DIY Zukie my way! I was so excited when he was announced, and now after seeing him in person I'm excited to get my inspiration flowing as to what he may become one day. Granted, I do love the way he looks blank, so it might be hard to decide! You can get a DIY Zukie of your very own from the Zukie Store for just US$9.95 when they drop on May 25th.
