Instead of going to the store to make my plushies like I normally do, I actually ordered mine online for the first time since I was dealing with the death of a family member, and didn't know when I'd be able to make it to one. Originally, I thought these were going to be limited edition plushies, but after talking with someone at the store when I popped in just recently, they'll be around for a while! If you've gone to the website, you've seen that I ordered the Royal Rainbow Dash and All Smiles Pinkie Pie combinations, as well as some other goodies you'll see later.
When you first get your plushies in the mail their mane and tails are tied up with little rubber bands so that they don't go all over the place. It's definitely nice since they're brushable plushies.
Here are a few of the tags you'll find on your new Pony pals. Of course on the right you have the well known My Little Pony logo, that one shouldn't be a stranger to you. On the left we have the Build-A-Bear tags. The Lifetime Paw Pass is where you can put your pony's name on it and have it wear the tag to take into the store so that they know you've already purchased it. This would come in handy if you were just looking for new clothes for them or something.
Here, I've got Dashie's fancy outfit off of her so that you can get a look at the basic plush. This is what you'll get for the US$24; a 17-inch-tall plush that's very nice to look at! Just by a first glance, you can see these are much more appealing than what other plushies are out on the market so far, though we'll have to see once the Aurora plushies come out this summer. I have a feeling I'll like these plushies from Build-A-Bear still as my number one for what's available to the public.
Her wings look great and are a soft, iridescent material that has a wee bit of a soft plastic feel to them, though it's definitely not. The rest of the plush is insanely soft and feels a bit like Minky, if anyone out there's ever felt that in person. If not, it feels mostly like the Hello Kitty plushies that Build-A-Bear has sold before. The embroidery for the eyes, nose and mouth looks incredible as well! Not a loose thread in sight.
As you can tell with Dashie's mane and tail down, it's a bit silky, but has some curl to it. I really like the way it looks and it's quite easy to brush well. All of the colors in her mane and tail are there as they should be as well, which is fantastic considering there are six of them.
We have such a great looking cutie mark as well. I'm very impressed with the quality of the embroidery, especially since these are generally marketed toward children, but they didn't skimp on the quality just because they possibly could.
You can see the the plushies stand well on their own as well. You really don't have to worry too much about them toppling over, especially if you have their outfits on and you have shoes. They stand up just fine without any shoes as well though.
For the most part the ponies really only stand up, but if you squish them around enough you might just be able to get them to sit cutely.
Now, here is a closer look at the 'Royal' outfit that I bought with Rainbow Dash. The cape, shoes and ear/mane flower piece are what comes in that package.
The cape really looks like what she wore for the Grand Galloping Gala that Rarity designed for her. However the shoes are different, but they work well for the outfit.
The silver shoes have a bit of a flower look to them on the tops. The cape just fastens nicely with Velcro around her neck, while the flower for the ear/mane just has a small piece of elastic that slides over her ear and stays on.
Here's Pinkie Pie as you would normally see her. She looks bright and cheery, and her mane is as curly as can be. Once you undo the rubber band on her mane and tail you'll see that her hair definitely differs from Rainbow Dash's. It's much more kinky, and the more you try to brush it, the more it poofs up!
All of her colors look lovely as well. I'm so glad to see that there is a company who can get these things right after all! These plushies also only have one cutie mark, as opposed to one on both sides, so for the ones out there that that bothers; you're still going to be bothered.
Moving along, you can see her cutie mark looks wonderful. The embroidery is spot on with this plush as well!
Well, mostly all you can see in this image is her curly hair in both her mane and tail, so as you can tell, it's quite fluffy. I actually really like it, as it tends to mimic her hair on the show quite well while being able to maintain the fact that it's a brushable plush.
Here we finally have Pinkie Pie's "All Smiles" outfit. It has a yellow cape/dress, pink sparkly sneakers, a flower ear/mane decoration that matches Rainbow Dash's, and an ice cream necklace, which definitely suits Pinkie.
Here's a head-on shot of her outfit. The bright colors of her outfit really offset her pinks well. I also love how the flower decoration looks on her.
The ice cream necklace is definitely perfect for Pinkie. It just Velcros easily at the back, and stays right where it should.
Honestly, I'm not sure what Pinkie Pie's outfit is based on. She sort of had pink shoes in her Gala outfit, but those had blue bows on them. The dress looks more like the dress that Rarity made Twilight Sparkle for her birthday, but it's still different from that one. It looks good on Pinkie though, whatever it's from.
Her fluffy tail kind of bumps up the dress a bit, but what else is to be expected when you're hiding a tail under there?
When she's all dressed up and looking cheery she totally makes me smile. Congratulations, Pinkie. You win.
The other two My Little Pony related items you can find in the store is the t-shirt and skirt combo, as well as a brush. I mean, you're going to need a brush for brushable ponies right? Why not have one that has this cute "Best Friends for ever and ever" logo?
So what's the verdict? Duh! If you're into My Little Pony go over to your closest Build-A-Bear Workshop and pick them up for yourself, or anyone else who's a pony pal and needs a gift to cheer them up. Trust me, these are definitely wonderful to hug when you're sad. They'll bring a smile to your face for sure!
