Doktor A calls himself a Victorian Futurist. It's something I have never heard of, and I must confess I love the term -- it really does give me a better way to describe his incredible work. Better than "Look how freaking amazing this is!!!", anyway.
The picture above is of a new Dok A piece called The Wooden Boy, which will be shown for the first time at the LIFT Gallery in Detroit this November 14th (and which Dok shared exclusively with Tomopop!) for the Freak Mechanique show. Dok says of his creation:
Marvel at the primitive machine boy made from timber -An early experiment in utilizing the new planet's indigenous arborealmatter resulted in this little fellow. No others were made as the requirements of chiseling each gear by had made the manufacturing process much too time consuming. In his day he sported a fine lacquered finish with a wax polish luster. But many years out in the element reduced him to his present state. And his head is now home to a small mouse like creature.
