Tomopop About Town: Summer Munny Show at Lift Detroit

This weekend was the opening of Lift Detroit's Summer Munny Show. For this year's event, Kent and Co. at Lift decided to focus more on the local artist scene, and for a lot of the artists, this was their first time customizing a Munny, or in some cases, customizing anything at all. So yes, some of thm are great, and some were totally underwhelming, but the good ones were pretty darn good.

My favorite piece? The New Squirrel'd Order one above by 84Tigers, whose name is perhaps a reference to the last Detroit Tigers team to win the World Series, I'm guessing? In any case, it's pretty simple, yes, but it has a cute squirrel perched on its head and it won best new custom Munny by a first timer. El Cap's Skeleton Munny was named Best Design winner and Caleb Matthew's Pierre Munny won Best Youth Munny. Congrats to all the winners and check out the gallery for all the pieces that were on display!

If you want to check out the small show for yourself, head on over to Lift during August (228 W. 4th St., Royal Oak, Mich.). The next big even there will be a Dunny 2010 series release party. Do you guys have a favorite from this show?
