Tomopop About Town: Art of the Brick at Crown Center

Nathan Sawaya is a LEGO genius, which I originally wrote about back at the beginning of the year, and now you can check out his work for yourself! The show still has about two weeks left at Crown Center in Kansas City, MO before moving on to a town near you.

I got the chance to check it out before it left town, so hit the jump to learn more about the display and what you can look forward to seeing in person.

Once you hit Crown Center, there's no mistaking that the Art of the Brick display is there. You'll see banners and signs of all sizes distributed around the shopping center.

Along with the yellow LEGO man opening his chest, as posted as the header image, you'll see the giant Monopoly box as soon as you walk into the display area. I absolutely love how the dice turned out, as well as the box as a whole.

There are also insanely intricate pieces that make up portraits he's done over the years, which happen to be some of my favorite pieces in the showcase. His skills in shading never cease to amaze me, and the eyes look perfect.

Even John Lennon made an appearance in the showcase, neon colors and all. This graced the back wall of the display and looked freaking awesome both from afar and up close. I totally want something like this to hang on my walls.

One of my other favorite pieces was the display case that included a greyscale version of the fruit that was taken from the LEGO fruit painting on the easel that was also made of LEGO.

By far this piece was the most popular at the exhibit, and was the talk of the show. Everyone and their brother was looking at this, so I took this rare moment of alone time to snap a couple photos of the masterpiece. The reflection on the mirror is nothing short of gorgeous, and it looks great from any angle.

As you can see there's a lot of wonderment to behold at the Art of the Brick showing, so I suggest if it's coming to a town within range you should definitely be sure to check it out. If all else fails it will really inspire you to want to play with LEGOs that's for sure.
