Tomocast episode three: choke me in Kanu Unchou figures photo

Here's episode three ... and a quick apology to all of you -- this podcast should have been out a few weeks ago, so I'm sorry we are late! This week Topher, Brian and Brad joined me to chat about what's going on in the world of toys. Our main topic this week was market saturation, with figures of characters such as Hatsune Miku, Yoko and Kanu Unchou as our guilty parties. Are any of you sick of seeing one after another of these characters hit the PVC market?

You can download the podcast here, and if you'd like a guide to what we're talking about, hit the jump to check out our super duper deluxe outline (complete with links to all the toys!). Thanks for listening and make sure to pelt us with your comments!

Your guide to what the hell we're talking about!

Ranka Lee Nyan Nyan ver (preorder)

Legacy Comments

I want to see an Isumi from Hayate no Gotoku!
I want to see more really good quality figures of games, metal slug, megaman, KoF, so on so on.
I still want a Haruhara Haruko. and yeah my family doesn't get my toy collecting, well except for my brother who's in the marines. He collects toys too :).
I want Alter to make a P3 Yukari to go with the fine Mitsuru. What I'd really like is if some of BUBBA's kits would be made into pvc, especially Princess Tutu.
thoroughly enjoyed the newest installment of tomocast. :D

i feel brad's pain, i'm currently searching for that Bridget figure. now that i've picked up blazblue, i would die if someone made an awesome Litchi or Noel figure....a Rachel figure would be pretty dynamic too. ah hell, it be awesome if ALL the characters received the PVC treatment! wishful thinking

personally, I haven't been swept off my feet by miku yet. the new 'world is mine' figure is pretty damn beautiful, and i must admit that I want to track down the nendo ver....she's too damn cute to pass up. i haven't heard any of the music and really have no knowledge about anything 'vocaloid'. but I think if people have obsessions with particular characters, and the figures of them sell well...then I say there is definitely a market for them.
like yoko, personally i'm pretty smitten with her at the moment. in the past month or so I've picked up about 4 different versions of her. gift's 1/6 ver, uplark's 1/8 ver, the GSC nendo and revoltech's movie ver. gotta say, they all look pretty awesome together and have created a nice little shrine in Yoko's honor. so, if other's feel the same way about miku or some of the ikki tousen figures...then I say buy to your hearts content. having already a handful of Yoko figures wouldn't necessarily make me more hesitant to pick up a new release...i just think my decisions of buying such a product would be influenced by the diverseness of the pose and/or quality compared to those that are already in my collection. like...the new koto Yoko that was just recently released. she looks pretty great and I love all the accessories and the fact that boota is included, but I'm not sure she would contrast well with my current collection. b/c i'd be buying another figure of the same character, I would want her to stand out from all the rest. Now, the Bounty Hunter Yoko by Alter...gotta pick her up. :) she's a slam dunk.

question: when you all were talking about yoko in particular you guys said that yoko was universally disliked by the jp gurren fanbase. what's the reason why they hate her so much? is she just too overrated?
wow you said a mouth full Reyj22 ;) im a bit surprise by your question ". . .yoko was universally disliked by the jp gurren fanbase" sort of curious myself; i mean wats not to about Yoko like, Nina a terrible character though...

BTW what is the OP for TomoCast? i know its Miku-vocliod but wats the song called?
Great, as always! Definitely a ton of Miku, but I just ordered my first figma today, who also happens to be Miku! I just stumbled into Mikumania recently, and though I like her, this will probably be my only Miku (well, maybe the Nendo version, too).
After listening to the podcast, and looking up some of Miku's songs (Love Is War and Black Rock Shooter) I can see where the appeal is. It helsp that her design is pretty eyecatching too. Thasnks for answering my question.

Also, is the podcast going to be on Itunes any time soon?
thanks for answering/discussing my question! I love the Tomocast! I finally got around to listening to it today!

Miku figures are coming out non-stop so it seems, even the merchandise is hard to keep up with. As Topher mentioned the GSC 1/8 of Miku is the perfect Miku. I think they're probably milking her as much as she's is the hottest thing on the market right now.

I always tell myself that I'll stop collecting Miku... but it's hard to resist a newer version especially seeing I have a Miku figure, they come out with the live stage a couple of months later.

I personally would love to see figures from Dennou Coil, I would kill for a Satchi figure. There is an Isako figure on the chair, but that alone is pretty expensive.

I also want a lot more male figures from my favorite dating sims. I can drop the money for them easily.
@ohmygodiamonfire -- iTunes allows you to submit your podcast after 5 episodes, so as soon as we get that far it will be on there! We'll keep you guys posted on that.
On the Yoko hate, from what I've heard from Japanese fans, it's because of her attitude, appearance, and that she's way to brash, especially when compared with the moe queen Nia. Yoko is defintely a "Western" woman, and I think that's why we love her so much, while Nia represents more traditional and moe-tastic values.
