This Week in Tomo: Otakon

2:00 PM on 08.01.2011

Welcome back to This Week in Tomo!

Instead of a news recap, this week you'll get a chance to see a bit of the Tomopop/Japanator meet up that went on Saturday, July 30th at Otakon. We had a couple of people show up and we had a rousing game of rock, paper, scissors to determine who would walk away with the prizes. We had a Figuarts ZERO Luffy (reviewed) and Law (reviewed) as well as two One Piece trading figures (reviewed).

Hit the jump to watch the action!

Once again, a big thank you goes out to everybody who showed up!

If I hadn't been so busy with my Notakon festivities, I totally would have joined.

(By which I mean, I was stuck at home. Sob!!)
If there is one con I would never step foot in again, it would be Otakon

That being said I hope you had a good time
It was good meeting everyone. Sorry we were so tired. It would have been nice to stick around longer but we were exhausted.
Oh, hadn't seen CounterPunch around as much. Had wondered what became of him =p

Was it a mostly Japanator showing or something? Or weren't most of their screennames being used? Eh, it's good to see a name I recognize win the thing.

Any other vid coverage we can expect? Like walking the floor and all that?
doh, missed the meetup. Was it at around 4? I think I was watching the AMV contest. Otakon was fun! hope y'all had fun as well :) I was Hijikata-Otaku if anyone saw me.

I've been really busy with work and some other stuff lately. Getting prepped for the convention was taking up a lot of nights actually. This was our first time doing any cosplay, so we were being really picky and unfortunately slow about things too.

The majority of people at the meet up were regular site visitors, but were also primarily lurkers. I met some nice folks and it would be great if they could post more.
Camera shy, yet oddly always center of frame Brony here. Had a bunch of fun there, I may have to actually start posting more.

You have awesome hair Brony

I wish I could have gone! My aunt lives in the area so I gotta make it down there some year. Always fun to put a name to a face XD

So sorry that we didn't get your name. By that time Kristina and I were completely fried after hours of shooting video, though I definitely want to thank you for coming :D

Oh yeah, we got some more stuff coming in the next couple of days!
The meet up was short but fun. It's always good to associate a face to a name, so skipping lunch to make it in time was worth it =) It didn't show, but lack of sleep, lack of food and the heat beat me up real bad ^^;;

Hopefully next year's meetup has more people, and we can arrange a nice lunch to chat and relax.
If we each bring a dollar, we can partake in Ice Cold Water...

Uuuuhg!

Anyway, didn't know this was taking place, but I doubt I would have made it anyway. I spent much of the day in Video 1 watching AMVs, then the new Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood movie, and a little later the Saturday night fan parodies. I had a pretty busy weekend, I only ate two meals during the con (McDonald's Friday afternoon, Subway Saturday evening, had a cook out with some online friends Sunday night post-con), my schedule was just too busy. Had a lot of fun, there's always a lot to see and do there. Never even made it into the artist alley (was going to go Sunday, but they closed it 20 minutes early.
i will come next year!
I made the panel on Friday morning, but was either busy or dead tired rest of the weekend. Fun panel and I got me a Beast Wars Crab transformer out of it, thanks guy cosplaying as Dan!
I was there but I didn't see anyone from this site... T.T Oh well...I still got a ton of great cosplay pictures and lots of cool new figures! ^^

The doctor is in! Nurse Miyu returns to pre-orders

A couple days ago we heard word that Lechery would be re-releasing their delicious Nurse Miyu figure, and sure enough, pre-orders have quickly appeared! I believe I've said before that I've never been one to understand the wh...

An elegant new Asuna is up for pre-orders

Griffon's previous Asuna may have been a little off the mark in terms of character recognition, but they're not down for the count yet! Stepping up to bat with a graceful Alfheim version of our heroine, she's still not quite ...

Take aim with this summery new Kirino

With such an inseparable pair, it's no surprise that where there is Shironeko, Kirino is close behind. Pretty much every company releases the two as a pair, and Chara-Ani is no different, pairing the breezy Shironeko with a K...

Pick up a perky pre-order of Miyuki Mana

Despite se.kirara being one of the many visual novels I've got next to no experience with, I still know some appealing character design when I see it--and Miss Miyuki Mana is not exactly my favorite character from the game. S...

High Priestess Chie Satonaka delayed to September

As much as Megahouse's High Priestess Chie Satonaka looks awesome, there's been some bad news the last two times I've posted about her. First, it was the news that Chie was a MegatreShop exclusive, and now a second bit of new...

Here are your upcoming Ichiban Kuji prize figures

I don't normally get into prize figures, but these have been getting more elaborate, haven't they? When I first started collecting, they didn't look much more detailed than the little clay sculptures I'd do for art class when...
