If I hadn't known who he was I would have thought he was some weird Lightan figure, too.
One of my favourite character designs from the series, coincidentally.

Last week I was checking through our tips e-mail for the usual great tips that we get, of which we get many and are very thankful to receive. During my usual trip into each message to check for things I actually understand (comic toys get marked to save, Transformers get deleted) I came upon a very strange little custom figure by The God Beast. While the name of the designer was intriguing, it was the actual figure, the ClawShine, that made me stop and take a long, hard look at what I was seeing. Was I actually looking at Eyerok, the boss of Shifting Sand Land from Super Mario 64?
Long story short, no, I was not, but I couldn't get the connection out of my head. I mean come on, both look like they're made of stone, have thick, square fingers, and have little round things in their palms that at first glance look like eyes. I'm forgiving myself for making this error as it's the first step toward recovery. Right after that I have to forgive The God Beast as the figures are kind of cool, especially when arranged all together like the pictures show. We're all forgiven, good, progress has been made.
The figures themselves are hand painted by Mr. God Beast and his accomplice Jason Frailey and come with a hand-signed header card. Plus, if you're into the color-changing thermal variety, they have those, too. What you can't really see though is how large these are. Well, they're tiny, like size-of-the-end-of-your-thumb tiny. But they're also only US$35 (US$30 for unpainted ones), plus shipping, so it all evens out. If you'd like to order one of these, shoot The God Beast himself an e-mail at the godbeast [at] mchsi.com.
Who's thinking of snagging one of these? And who else made the Mario 64 connection? Be honest now, no way I was the only one.
