Gundam Unicorn inspires two more Gunpla recolors

Bandai offers up a beautiful Ghibli Guardian photo
Bandai offers up a beautiful Ghibli Guardian
by Martin Siggers

Laputa: Castle in the Sky was one of the very first Studio Gibli efforts to hit the screen (technically it is the first, as the earlier Nausicaa did not bear the famous studio name) and might be a little forgotten today under the weight of subsequent hits. That's a shame, as it's a beautiful, elegant film, and one of its most touching scenes comes when our heroes discover the titular castle, overgrown and abandoned save for one still-functioning robot guardian.

That's where Bandai's fantastic replica steps in, recreating the distinctive, long-limbed design in all its retro glory. Complete with appropriate crumbled stone base, it's a really nice bit of work and a great representation of a rarely seen design. Alas, it's a limited exclusive item, so you'll need to do a bit more work than usual to grab one, but if you're a fan of the movie it looks very much to be worth it. The list price is ¥3200, but bear in mind fees will bump that up, and a release is pegged for October. Hit the pre-order links if you're tempted
