SDCC 2014: ThinkGeek

The majority of ThinkGeek's San Diego Comic-Con booth was dedicated to upcoming goodies with a smaller vending section to the side. The company's con-exclusive goods included a Bee and Puppycat inflatable sword, Star Wars R2-D9 car charger, and light-up D20s. A brand-spanking-new version of their Bag of Holding was also sold at the con. The aptly-named Con-Survival Edition is now available for purchase on ThinkGeek's website. I had mine since day zero of SDCC and can't say enough good things about it. It has just the right amount of good-sized pockets to fit pens, chargers, and business cards. And I dig all the extra touches like capacitive touch pocket for my iPad. I hear add-on kits are being planned for the bag, with portable chargers, additional organizers, and who knows what else.

Going back to the previewed items, the biggest buzz was centered around the Star Trek Phaser Remote Replica (US$149.99). This gesture-based television remote was made using 3D scans of the last known screen-used prop and has all sorts of functions to make any Trekkie giggle with delight. Beyond controlling your entertainment system, it has tons of different sound and light effects taken from the original show, including the Phaser Overload sequence. The Mega Man Buster Gun Replica (US$79.99) that Pedro mentioned from Capcom's SDCC booth was also on display here. The replica will have a trigger inside with lights on the side and in the front. The Back to the Future Flux Capacitor USB Car Charger (US$24.99), which began its life as an April Fool's joke, has evolved into a real product and will soon be available for purchase. My personal favorite amongst the upcoming products was the Star Wars Lawn Ornament (US$39.99), featuring one of the downed AT-ATs from the battle on Hoth. The remainder of the future merchandise had Game of Thrones fans in mind with their Map Marker Salt and Pepper Shakers (US$19.99) and Dragonclaw Glass Replica (US$29.99).

Additional new items exclusive to ThinkGeek were the Funko Pop! Khal and Khaleesi set (US$19.99) and Funko Guardians of the Galaxy Mystery Minis blind boxed figures (US$6.99 each).

You can check out ThinkGeek's previewed offerings here.
