SDCC 2013: Kotobukiya photo
SDCC 2013: Kotobukiya
by Natalie Kipper

Kotobukiya's booth at this year's San Diego Comic Con was like a four-sided gallery of beautiful new figures, peppered with teaser placards for ones that have yet to be seen. It was all very exciting! Let's start with some of the new figures on display. Star Wars was a big license at the booth, starting with the new1/10-scale Sand Trooper 2-pack as well as the Sand Sergeant, both coming in 2014. Four of the classic characters from the series will also be getting 2-packs in 2014, Luke and Leia as well as a pairing of Han Solo and Chewbacca. You can see their teaser placards in the post's gallery. Kotobukiya will be having a booth at this year's New York Comic Con and the R2-Q5 will be one of the exclusives and come with a collector's coin. It will be available for pre-order.

Another new license recently acquired by Kotobukiya was The Avengers. They even commissioned the comic artist! The Hulk, Captain America, Black Widow, Ironman, Thor, and Hawkeye are part of this series. Pricing for this line has yet to be determined.  They also acquired the Halo license for Art-Fx and Art-Fx+ figures. No Bishoujo figures are planned for this series. The Batman Arkham City and Arkham Origins figures will have bases, something not seen in Art-Fx. And, the final Justice League piece was also revealed at the booth. It will be Cyborg.

Moving onto Japanese licenses, Street Fighter's Cammi and Tekken's Jun Kazama will be getting the Bishoujo treatment. They had the prototype for Jun but only a placard for Cammi at the booth. For all of you enamored with Art-FX Gunman in Black ver. of Trigun's Vash the Stampede, the Kotobukiya US online store will have it available for pre-order "soon." No need to import! You will notice the Yu-Gi-Oh Dark Magician figure in our gallery. Well, Kotobukiya will also be releasing a flesh-tone version to match the character in the anime.

This is a whole lot of news to take in, for sure. After you've caught your breath, stay tuned to Tomopop for more SDCC coverage!

Tokyo Disneyland is getting two cool new Vinylmation photo
Tokyo Disneyland is getting two cool new Vinylmation
by Natalie Kipper

If you happen to be in the Land of the Rising Sun's version of Disneyland this summer, be on the lookout for a new pair of Vinylmation. Entitled "Summer Fun Mickey and Minnie," the figures show the famous couple attempting to cool off in the Summer heat with removable sunglasses (revealing a suntan on the character's face) and an ice cream treat from the Parks. I personally like it when Vinylmation come with accessories and these are some of the most inventive ones that I have seen. I love that you can see Tokyo Disneyland's Cinderella Castle "reflected" in the lens of the sunglasses as well as the detail on the popsicles.

Summer Fun Mickey and Minnie will be available starting July 1 for ¥1200 each. For now, they are listed as exclusive to the Tokyo Disney resort but there have been previous Japanese releases that eventually made it across the Pacific. Here's hoping these two Vinylmation will do the same.
