X-Plus has stirred up quite a bit of controversy with its line of Fairy Tail swimsuit figures, with their take on Erza (NSFW) proving particularly inflammatory over here at Tomo Towers. Now they're back with a new figure...

X-Plus has been making something of a name for itself lately. The company moved from doing small things like figurines to larger scale figures from popular titles like Fairy Tail (with not everybody being happy with the resul...
The Queen's Whatever series has gone on for much longer than I expected, and it has given us a bounty of exploitative, mildly rape-y figures to enjoy (or not). The latest magazine scans have a few for us to look at.

Yay! A company finally got around to making a figurine of Wendy from Fairy Tail. If you are a fan of the show, cat girls, or swimsuit figures, you really should check out their sculpt of Wendy Marvell.
Despite a few obvious s...
The giant kaiju is striking again, this time as PREVIEWS exclusives. Godzilla collectible figures are being released from X-Plus and will be available at comic book specialty shops. There will be three Toho vinyl figures released; Godzilla, Varan, and Minilla.
The Godzilla figure will be modeled after his 1964 appearance in the fourth movie, Mothra vs. Godzilla. This figure will be 12 inches tall and have detailed body movement. Godzilla will cost US$160.
The Varan, or Varan the Unbelievable figure is taken from his first movie in 1958. Also 12 inches tall and featuring spiky spines from head to toe, this figure will be US$160. The last exclusive figure will be of Minilla from his 1967 appearance in Son of Godzilla. Baby Godzilla will be over 7 inches tall and cost US$80.
These three figures are featured in the November issue of the PREVIEWS catalog and can be pre-ordered now at your local comic shop. Diamond Comic’s PREVIEW exclusive Godzilla figures will be available in March.
Most collectibles are cool in our books. However every once in a while an ugly one rears its head and we at Tomopop stop and stare and it and say to ourselves, "Oh my gosh. What were they thinking?" This was collectively the case when X-Plus announced their disgusting rendition of Erza Scarlet chained up like a slave girl, which just went up for pre-order last night.
I didn't even want to see a write up on Tomo with this news because showing this to the world is a disgrace to the awesomeness that is Erza. She is among my top three favorite wizards in Fairy Tail. She is strong and courageous. She would back her friends and guild mates up to the death and show mercy to her opponents, even when they probably deserve none. I feel like she is one of the best examples of a knight in Japanese anime. Perhaps it is because of this that X-Plus chose to make such a controversial figurine.
As a fan of Erza I find that this figurine looks so risque and gross that it's painful to look at photos of her for very long. It probably has more to do with taking who I see as a strong and honorable character and showing them stripped down to their underwear and shackled. Imagine what kind of statement it would be to have a figurine of a famous, powerful historical figure, like Joan of Arc or Elizabeth the First, chained up and stripped down like Erza is here? I think it would anger more people than it would please. To be fair, there is a fair amount of fan service in Fairy Tail, but this really just doesn't sit well with me.
I will also say that besides my personal issues with her, X-Plus produced Erza to very low quality standards. Even though her curves look alright for a muscular woman, her hair looks cheap and her facial expression and face do not look right at all. The only thing I like about this figure's sculpt in particular is the bow in her hair.
I really wish that X-Plus had made something nicer out of Erza, even a risque version of her in her showier armors would have been better. For example her seduction armor or sea empress armor which actually showed up in the manga and anime would work fine. I'm sure there are better examples than these armors too, but they just came to me first.
What do you all think Tomopeeps? Do you think X-Plus' rendition of Erza Scarlet is gross, too? Or do we need to lighten up a little bit and try to enjoy a wider variety in our figurines? Let us know in the comments below.
