Wonder Festival 2015 Winter: Nendoroid invasion

Wonder Festival 2014 Summer: FREEing

FREEing definitely know a good thing when they see it, as their booth was packed with their popular range of yukata-clad ladies. It seems like paired sets are the new hotness in FREEing's world. For me the highlight here is d...

[UPDATED] Good Smile Company's Mio Honda has stars in her ears photo
[UPDATED] Good Smile Company's Mio Honda has stars in her ears
by Martin Siggers

[Update: Pre-orders are up! Click the links below to get her]

Good Smile Company have really been knocking it out of the park with their iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls figures lately. Even though I'm an avowed non-fan of the series I've really been digging some of the recent figures like Uzuki Shimamura. Now it's Mio Honda's turn to join the troupe, done up in her 'New Generation' look.

She's looking pretty good too. I'm a big fan of the orange and red colour scheme, although perhaps slightly less so of the pose. It's fine, just a bit generic is all. The base  is a nice bonus too. As ever GSC's eye for detail is up to scratch, be it the glossy finish on her boots or the delightful star shaped charms she's got scattered about her person. It's a pretty loud, brash figure, but I'm going to guess that's pretty in keeping with the character.

All in all it definitely looks like another winner. Pre-orders are up now at a not-unreasonable ¥8,380 and she'll be on your own personal stage come October

Good Smile's here to drop some more delays

By now the regular Good Smile Company delay post is a warm familiar friend. OK, that's a lie. It's still a crushing disappointment, but at least Good Smile is prompt and consistent about notifying us when our eagerly awaited ...

Wonder Festival 2014 Winter: Kotobukiya's Cu-poche photo
Wonder Festival 2014 Winter: Kotobukiya's Cu-poche
by Natalie Kipper

Ah yes, the Cu-poche; what some might call Kotobukiya's answer to Good Smile Company's popular Nendoroid line. Whatever your take on the chibi-fied figures, Wonder Festival's Cu-poche display is sure to draw more than a few eyes. A good many of the figures shown had already been released, ( Dark Magician Girl, Haruka AmamiSaber, and Kirino Kousaka, for example), giving the display a feel of a museum exhibit showcasing the lines past and future.

The new prototypes draw from the anime series, Sword Art Online and Chu 2 Byo, along with an extra-special original figure. From Sword Art Online, we see an unpainted Asuna Cu-poche. From the world of Chu 2 Byo, Kotobukiya provided a painted prototype of Rikka Takanashi plus a silhouette teaser image of Sanae Dekomori. Finally, we come to the Scale Bathing Suit Body Cu-Poche. This is Cu-poche doesn't come from any game or anime series; it is just a charming little lady in her swimsuit.

Hello and welcome back to another week of Tomopop LinkUP! In one week from today we'll be celebrating Thanksgiving here in America and I for one am looking forward to getting stuffed on some turkey! Even though it's a popular vacation week you can look forward to LinkUP returning once again! News doesn't stop and neither do we.

Back to this week we've got a bunch of new prototypes, some designer figures, and some amazing photo galleries and videos!

Tomopop LinkUP: the grand opening edition photo
Tomopop LinkUP: the grand opening edition
by Jeremy Emerje Crocker

Hello and welcome, Tomopeeps, to the first ever Tomopop LinkUP! A lot of news comes out in any given week and there just isn't enough time in a day to get it out. It's not bad news, in fact it's quite good news, but when you deal with a few hundred tips in a week like we do, some stuff is just bound to fall to the wayside.

Our solution is Tomopop LinkUP; taking the best of what's been left behind and rounding it all up into one big report. Unlike the daily news you see around here, LinkUP consists of a series of short blurbs and teaser images with links you can follow for more information. If the rest of the site is the main course, then consider this the dessert.

And speaking of dessert, this week we'll be talking about Japan's incredible holiday cakes, designer toys, robots, anime stuff, and even a few videos!

Max Factory gives a new look at many upcoming figma photo
Max Factory gives a new look at many upcoming figma
by Jeremy Emerje Crocker

Another Japanese figure show means another crop of figma being put on display by Max Factory. While nothing shown at Miyazawa Model Expo Autumn 2013 was entirely new we are getting an updated look at some figures that we haven't yet seen at this stage.

One of the upcoming figma I hear a lot of people asking about is Guyver. When we last saw him at Wonder Festival 2013 Winter he looked like a nearly complete and colored figure. But the latest look is an unpainted prototype with some different articulation. In reality the original prototype was probably a reworked Bio Fighter Collection figure also from MF. The updated sculpt is very detail-heavy and looks to be using the figma 2.0 body.

Another update goes to Casca from Berserk, shown here for the first time in color. The figure looks exceptional and may be worth getting even if you aren't a big Berserk fan. Indiana Jones is also making his first public appearance which is kinda strange when the figure has already gone up for pre-order

Other things of note are the new figmaPLUS display sets featuring street and classroom scenes, Space Adventure Cobra's Golden Boy showing off his golden skeleton, and of course you can't talk about figma right now without mentioning Attack on Titan

Still a lot of stuff left unseen, but I'm sure they're holding the best for the next Wonder Festival 2014 Winter in February.
