Tomopop LinkUP: Remakeover

Sometimes our favorite characters are too good to fall off into obscurity over the years. Often they'll get a new outfit and and just continue their adventures like Sideshow's upcoming 1/6 scale Catwoman. Sometimes they trans...

Tomopop LinkUP: Winter (Soldier) Blues

I know I've talked a lot about the terrible winter we've been experiencing so I don't want to spend a lot of time on that. I'll just quickly say that I have a feeling I'll be pulling weeds from my garden this year while it's ...

Sideshow adds Christopher Reeve Superman to Premium Format line photo
Sideshow adds Christopher Reeve Superman to Premium Format line
by Brian Szabelski

Sideshow Collectibles has been working DC Comics' characters into their Premium Format line for some time with some pretty awesome statues so far ... but you get the feeling like they could do something even better than their Batman or Poison Ivy pieces.

How about a Christopher Reeve Superman Premium Format Figure?

That's exactly what Sideshow's shown off in a new site posting, and boy, does it look great. Not just because the sculpt team at Sideshow has created an incredible likeness of Christopher Reeve's face with the design, but because it's the best Superman getting a large-scale figure, finally. The base features Superman flying over the breached Hoover Dam from the original 1978 film, and the exclusive Sideshow version will come with the green crystal that was Superman's key to the Fortress of Solitude.

Both the regular and exclusive versions will be priced at US$424.99 and pre-orders open tomorrow, March 6. Please tell me that it won't be much longer before we get a Terrence Stamp Zod or Gene Hackman Lex Luthor, Sideshow?

Sideshow has a Sixth Scale Snake Plissken for pre-order photo
Sideshow has a Sixth Scale Snake Plissken for pre-order
by Brian Szabelski

Sideshow Collectibles are taking my money once again, and this time, it's for their Sixth Scale Series Snake Plissken. Apparently, someone told them I'm a big fan of Escape from New York and they decided to roll out this 12-inch version of Kurt Russell's iconic character. Sideshow's Snake comes with his brown leather jacket as seen in the film, camo pants, combat boots and that trademark eyepatch.

You also get his submachine gun among an arsenal of weaponry, and the wrist-clock and tracker that the United States Police Force attached to him before sending him into Manhattan. Plus, the Sideshow Exclusive bonus is the cassette tape that has the President's nuclear fusion secrets, part of the reason they sent Snake to rescue the President in the first place.

What's great is that Sideshow's Snake isn't going to cost you a ton of money: US$159.99 is what they're asking for him, which is fairly competitively priced alongside the other 1/6-scale companies. You'd better believe I'll be buying this one; anyone else out there going to?

Darth Vader Mythos statue is the stuff of legends photo
Darth Vader Mythos statue is the stuff of legends
by Jeremy Emerje Crocker

OK. We all know Darth Vader and we all know how cool of a villain he is so let's just cut to the chase. This might just be the only Darth Vader statue you'll ever need. On its own it's made to represent Darth Vader returning to Mustafar where Obi Wan left him for dead to reflect on the path he's taken in his life. His helmet removed he holds it out in front of him as the lava reflecting brilliantly off of him. But wait, is it young Anakin or old Anakin under the helmet? Why, it's both! Thanks to the magic of interchangeable parts you can display Vader as either young or old. But wait, there's more! If pasty bald Anakin isn't your thing there's also a completely helmeted head with optional arms and lightsaber to make what might just be the most intimidating Darth Vader anything ever made! I'm also digging the other optional arm allowing him to hold up a clenched fist kinda like the one he makes (with the other hand) when trying to entice Luke to the Dark Side in Empire Strikes Back.

It's a statue that allows for a lot of configuring, but all that comes at a price. US$349.99 will score you a 24 inch tall and 12 inch wide polystone statue with a heft of 14 pounds complete with a total of three different heads and two additional right arms. That's a lot of statue! He'll be released in September with pre-orders up now at Sideshow.com, but they haven't announced just how many they'll be limiting it to just yet. So who's going to take the lava plunge and buy this?

Tomopop Review: Sideshow Collectibles' OOM-9 Droid photo
Tomopop Review: Sideshow Collectibles' OOM-9 Droid
by Brian Szabelski

If there's one thing the Star Wars universe has plenty of, it's cannon fodder whether it's Stormtroopers in the original trilogy or droids in the prequel films, there's always something for a Jedi to slice through thousands of. That's pretty much the role in the prequels of the common OOM-9 Battle Droid, as more of them get knocked around on screen than anything else I can remember.

As part of its Sixth Scale figure series, though, Sideshow Collectibles have given the OOM-9 droid a moment in the spotlight to not get sliced apart. As the proud owner of the Boba Fett Sixth Scale figure, and a happy owner at that, I had some expectations that this figure would be a solid entry into the line for Star Wars collectors.

How does our droid friend stand up? Hit the jump to find out!
