Hello and welcome back to Tomopop LinkUP! I know I've complained at least once already about the winter, but when dealing with subzero temps as often as we have this year I think it warrants some additional complaining. They say the best way to deal with the cold is to think about warm weather, but that's just something people from warm climates say.
Still, the Japanese seem to be pretty content with the warm thoughts; just look at all of the bathing suit-clad figures they've been cranking out this winter! I don't even remember the last time I went to the beach; it's been years. My parents have a pool, at least, but I only used it once last year. Man, I need to get more sun...
Anyway, this week we've got more girls in swimwear, oddball movie toys, and even some hand-knit TV toys. Follow me in to the deep end after the jump!
This Sonico fad refuses to do the decent thing and die, like Black Rock Shooter, Kanu Unchou, and Yoko Littner before it. I guess I like the giant block of cheese that this one comes with. Cheese is yummy, right?
Sorry if tha...
Hello and Welcome to this week's Tomopop LinkUP! It's been a crazy, exhausting week for me. Between a three-day ice storm, a 17 hour power outage, and rushing through Christmas, it has all left me a little drained. But the news doesn't stop for anyone and there's no way I would miss the last LinkUP of 2013! The news doesn't stop for the holidays either; there's been a ton of great stuff shown in the past week.
This week we're looking at a number of different plushies, some new release galleries, great geek toys, a massive LEGO custom, and much more!
Late last month we caught a quick glimpse of Alter's Santa Sonico, but we really didn't get many good photos showing off the details of her sculpt. Alter apparently sought to remedy this issue and posted a nice splash of pretty photos on their blog! While they do not show off anything more than what you would see on a swimsuit figurine I would still suggest you not view this at work.
I have to hand it to Alter and their photographer, they took some really exceptional photos showing off all of Sonico's nice curves and they got close up here and there where it really counted, like the detail work done to make Sonico's little hood look extra fluffy and the sweet look in her eyes.
Okay yeah, she is also very showy and sensual and the photos do a great job of showing that off. It could be the way the bokeh came out, but it's getting a little stuffy in here! I have never really liked a Sonico figure before, but this one is both (somehow) hot and cute enough to turn my head. I only wish they had a full Santa girl suit for her and that this was just how she looked when that was cast off... Ah well, one can dream right?
I have to wonder about why Alter is making all of these Christmas themed figurines. Wouldn't it be funny if it was some sort of inside joke that they will be done by next Christmas or something? Well, we'll see, hopefully this Sonico will be released before next Christmas. Pre-orders will open soon!
I'm actually really surprised that it took Wave this long to make a Beach Queens figure out of Super Sonico, but here we are. The figure was recently shown off by T_Santa, her proud illustrator, and she's currently unpainted....
Sonico figures have become pretty formulaic: a vaguely vulnerable expression, swimsuit, and gigantic boobs. That describes the gamut of Sonico figures, except outfits vary by fetish.
Alter's rendition of Sonico popped up on Twitter recently, going with the combination of Santa hoodie and tiny bikini (which really looks more like underwear to me, but the description says "swimsuit" so who am I to argue). I can't say this interpretation stands out above the other Sonicos, but at least I like what they've done with her face.
We don't have much info yet, but this figure will be out in - hahaha just kidding, this is Alter we're talking about. It's probably scheduled for never!
Orchid Seed have been rather quiet about their lovely Cheer Girl version of Sonico (last seen at WF), and it looks like they're almost ready to let her go now. In a recent blog update, the team also mentions that she'll have ...
Sonico has been all over this Summer's Wonder Festival, it seems. She was also spotted at Broccoli's booth, in the form of her new figure, Super Sonico - Teeth Brushing Version. The character looks a tad like she just rolled ...
Fans who were able to attend The CHiRAL Night's (Dive into DMMd) recent event at the Tokyo Dome City Hall were in for a big surprise when they turned to a certain page in their event pamphlet, which listed that both GSC and Max Factory would be releasing figures from the popular boys love game DRAMAtical Murder.
Although the listing in the pamphlet only stated that Aoba would be made into a Nendoroid, it might open the doors for the other boys in the series in the foreseeable future. While I know GSC isn't exactly known for releasing many male Nendos, you never know, especially considering the immense popularity of DMMd. For now, we can enjoy playing the guessing game with the extras chibi Aoba might come packed with; personally, I would like to see a SCRAP mode expression along with his All Mate, Ren.
Of course, Good Smile's news is not the only thing to be excited about. Max Factory also announced it would be making a second 1/7 scale figure of one of the other characters from the game. No word yet on whom it will be, though I would love to see either Koujaku or Noiz. Not that I would mind seeing the adorable Clear, as well. Regardless, I'm sure Max Factory will create an impressive and dynamic figure that will capture Honyarara’s art style just as their previous 1/7 release of Aoba.
With Wonder Festival 2013 Summer about three weeks away, hopefully we'll be able to see a proper prototype of either of the figures on display. Needless to say, I'm so excited to see that one of my favorite Nitro+ CHiRAL games is getting attention from such great companies. So, Tomocchi's are you as excited as I am to see what GSC and Max Factory have in store for us?
Gift's cute new Sonico figure, sporting a tiger parka and lugging a guitar case, has been revealed with paint splashed on by t_santa on TwitPic.

Alright, so we had a peek at 1/2-scale Sonico not long ago, and I'm back again to let everyone know the very important news that she is up for pre-order! If you're ready to fork out the dough (over ¥40,000 retail) for her...
