[Update: added more pre-order links]
This figure either slipped under my radar or I just forgot about it. Both sound like plausible explanations for why I didn't even know Kotobukiya was making a Shinobu figure. Now that I se...
Nisio Isin's Monogatari series has been in a pretty odd place of somehow being both a massive hit as well as a somewhat niche franchise. Despite the anime with no end in sight and a hugely positive critical reception for books and TV show alike, I'm always surprised when I run into another anime watcher who hasn't joined the fold as of yet. Being a recent convert myself, I always say it's only a matter of time.
Despite only sitting down to watch the series some months ago before the recent sequel aired, it quickly grabbed me and it's become one of my favorites by far. Karen is far from the first Monogatari figure I got my hands on because of it, but hopefully she won't be the last. I knew I had to get my hands on her just for the sake of cast completion, but she'd just have to turn out well, right? Let's find out!
Kahotan snuck out some shots last month but now we've finally got a proper full-on preview of the next little lady in the Bakemonogatari line of Nendoroids, the adorable grade-schooler Mayoi Hachikuji.
Compared to some recent Nendoroids, which have bombarded us with accessories and gimmicks, Mayoi is somewhat back to basics, but no less charming for that. As ever, it's an A+ job by the Good Smile Company team to render her in adorable chibi form and their paint and finish continues to impress. You'll get three great faces, with smiling, winking and an outstanding tongue-poking out face in the box, along with a special set of legs to replicate her trademark crouching pose.
It's a brief little package then, but one that's beautifully styled and it's sure to tempt fans. She'll be up for pre-order from tomorrow, so check back in later for links.
Awhile back, pre-orders popped up for the latest Monogatari girl from Good Smile, Fire Sister Tsukihi. It's been some months, but if you're still not hooked--and why wouldn't you be--then grab a look at a wonderful gallery fr...
Recently, on September 6th Kahotan blogged about a lot of seemingly random stuff such as how GSC is decorating for Halloween already and details about the 2013 International Manga fair. What drinks and figures will GSC be selling there? This includes Madoka Maiko version. She even talked a little bit about her desire to go to some screenings of Card Captor Sakura and Magic Knight Rayearth.
At the very end of her blog, though, she teased two color photos of Mayoi Hachikuji's Nendoroid. I myself am kind of new to the Monogatari scene, but I think that Mayoi is the cutest of the bunch of girls. I have always had a weakness for twin tailed girls so even more of them made into Nendoroid form can't be a bad thing right?
We saw a rather lovely preview of her just a few days ago, and now Kotobukiya's take on Hitagi Senjougahara from Nisemonogatari is up for pre-orders everywhere. She clocks in at a not-inconsiderable ¥9,000,...
One of the notable things about Mikatan was how very...attached she became to the figures she covered. Today Kahotan took to the blog to preview Good Smile's take on Nisemonogatari's Karen Araragi (out today) and proved she's carrying on that proud tradition. Yes, it's perhaps the perviest preview yet.
Joking aside though, this is an extremely comprehensive look at another outstanding effort from GSC Kahotan highlights some really great little detail, like the adjustable headlamps on her steamroller base or the wonderful fading effect on the paint. She also not-too-subtly hints that her shorts are cast-offable which is...a thing I guess?
Regardless, this is an excellent looking figure and anybody who has one on the way should be very, very excited. For those of you who missed the initial pre-order wave she's tough to find, but still available over at Hobbylink Japan.
We saw a quick teaser shot the other day, but now Kotobukiya have graced us with a full preview gallery of their take on the Monogatari series's leading lady, Hitagi Senjougahara.
Having not seen Nisemonogatari, from which this pose is apparently drawn, I don't really have much context, but I will say it looks fantastically weird and sinister. Senjougahara herself is perfectly balanced between alluring and terrifying, giving her a very edgy, distinctive look. There's some great detail here, like the drop of liquid dangling from her finger or the way the chair gently rocks back, and it's helped by Kotobukiya's decision to use dramatic, shadowy lighting rather than the usual flat preview setup. I do hope we get a slightly more 'normal' set of pictures for accuracy's sake however. The preview also shows her right arm will be swappable, with a dripping finger or handcuffs your two choices.
There's still no pre-order date, but instead a promise that she'll be available 'soon'. Rest assured that once more details emerge we'll be right up on it.
Anime figures these days... I don't understand most of them because I don't watch as much anime as I'd like. It makes me feel like an old timer when I do see a character I recognize.
There are few characters as beloved to me ...
Kotobukiya are a company in fine fettle and that was reflected in their booth, with a vast array of figures spread out across a variety of different ranges, franchises and styles.
The biggest news out of the booth was p...
Kotobukiya news is trickling in and I've spotted a few figures to get excited about. First up is a colored version of Kasumi Yashiro from Muv-Luv Alternative. It's a bunny outfit figure done by 4-Leaves, but may be a bit racy...
As promised in yesterday's post we've got more pictures of Good Smile Company's Tsukihi Araragi here for you, along with a full set of pre-order links. This second preview gallery from Mikatan focuses in on some of the fine details like the masks hanging on the jungle gym base, and offers some more creative angles to appreciate her from.
As a reminder, the pink version of Tsukihi will be available at all your favourite retailers - hit the links below to order. The green version will be available exclusively from the Good Smile Company Online Store, so that's your only option. There'll be no discounts at GSC from a hefty ¥11,800 price, but the store does offer a flat EMS shipping rate of ¥2,000 regardless of order size. Either way, December is the due date for this lovely piece of work (expect delays obviously). Readers, which of you are going green and who's picked pink?
