TomoTour: Disney edition

Feb 18 // Natalie Kipper
Little Beast Adoption (US$15) by LittleBeastSanctuary This 7-inch tall plush is a look-alike of Beauty and the Beast's beastly hero and is part of a line of "Fantasies" to adopt. Each toy in the series comes with an adoption certificate, like the one shown in the picture. At present, the shop lists only one of this particular plush in stock but it looks like you can custom order one, and even choose its colors, should they run out. Loki and Thor Sculpey Clay Minis (US$6 each) by SimplySculpy The famous Asgardian brothers, Loki (yes, I put him first because reasons) and Thor, now come in ropy-poly form. Made of sculpey clay, these figures measure 2-inches tall and 1-inch wide. Each character comes with their respective weapons and Loki even has his horned helmet. Custom Genie Jafar Funko POP! figure (US$40) by LFCustomPops This clever custom was born from one of the Genie figures in Funko's Disney POP! line. For those who don't recognize Aladdin's Jafar in this form, it comes from the evil vizier wishing to become a genie himself towards the end of the film. This figure stands about 4-inches tall and was customized with acrylic paint plus air-dry paper clay for Jafar's earring. Dead Men Tell No Tales outfit for Duffy the Disney Bear (US$15.95) by DSMClothier I don't know about you but I am always searching for more outfits for my Duffy the Disney Bear, particularly if they are themed to part of Disney lore. And that is just what you get with this headband and shirt set themed to the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction. You will notice that several of the skulls in the shirt's print bare a resemblance to the talking skull and crossbones warning you on the first drop near the beginning of the ride. Gravity Falls' Mabel Pines plush (US$60) by SeamsLegitCrafts Mabel Pines of Gravity Falls and her fun sweaters were just begging to get a plush, in my mind. I think fans will agree that one of the key features of this 11-inch tall plush, aside from her cute face, is her hand-appliqued sweater. As a bonus, you can request other sweater designs from the show for your doll. Kingdom Hearts' Sora custom Munny (US$25) by DIYbyDuck Sora from Kingdom Hearts (yes, I count that as a Disney franchise) gets the Munny treatment. Taking into account that every outfit Tetsuya Nomura designs is impossibly complicated (don't get me wrong, I still love 'em), I'd say this artist did an impressive job. They even got Sora's gloves and side pouch. Kingdom Hearts' Heartless figure with GID eyes (US$15) by TheSassiestTreasures Fun fact: Kingdom Hearts' Heartless baddies look pretty dang cute when you put heart next to them. For a fun bonus, both the heart and the Heartless' eyes glow in the dark. While we don't know the exact measurements of the figure, the description mentions that they were made to appear in scale with the Kingdom Hearts Play Arts Kai figures. How clever! Kirby Sora plush (US$16.50) by Craftseed And now for something you don't see every day, here is a mash-up between Sora and Kirby (yeah, Nintendo's platforming pink round ball dude). While I would never in a million years have thought of this combination, the artist somehow managed to make it work. Sora's spiky hair kind of suits the little guy. I should note that you have the option to have the key blade attached to the plush or as a separate accessory. Did I miss your favorite Disney-themed Etsy treasure? Do you have a store on Etsy? Custom Made Monday: Home of the Evil

Jul 01 // Brian Szabelski
Geese Howard custom 12-inch figure from by ZombieKev So we start things off with the usual spotlight figures, and if you're a King of Fighters fan, then this one we found on FigureRealm might just blow your mind. It's a 12-inch custom figure of the boss himself, Geese Howard, complete in his gi and hakama, with an evil smirk sculpted on his face. For the body, Kev used a DC Direct Deluxe 13-inch body, and a head from a Medicom figure with new sculptwork to make it look like Geese. Add in handsewn clothing and hands recast from various figures, and it's super-impressive. Custom Shredder concept by customfig Speaking of awesome finds on FigureRealm, how about this interesting take on Shredder? Using a wrestling figure for a base with a ton of unique sculpting (the cape is from another figure and that's all that's not sculpted), customfig has created an imposing Shredder, who comes with a sword and a throne base to sit upon. Maybe it's not the most canon-friendly figure, but it's hard to deny that this doesn't look impressive.  Iron Man and Iron Patriot Minicels by Fuller Designs Fuller has put his stylings to two of Kuso Vinyl's Minicel figures, turning them to Iron Man and Iron Patriot from Iron Man 3. The designs don't have much in the way of sculpting, but Fuller tends to layer details on with his painting skill, and they show off here. Plenty of shading to go with some of the wear and tear. These will be available in the Kuso Vinyl booth (#5642) at SDCC. Sergeant Bearbosa by Reet Neet Reet is back with another 3.5-inch Teddy Trooper custom, done in the same style as his previous General Bearends custom. I do like how the body this time around has a wooden finish to it instead of riveted copper, along with the gears protruding through the torn-open helmet. Like General Bearends, this is a commissioned piece, but Reet Neet is open for commissions, if you're interested. Fhtagndroids and custom Trikky by Infinite Rabbits Some new customs from Infinite Rabbits have appeared. First, there's the custom 7-inch Trikky, made for a trade with another artist. Nothing much seems out of the ordinary with it ... you know, except the dozens of eyes sculpted and painted onto the surface of the Trikky's face.  And speaking of eyeballs, Infinite Rabbits put together a trio of custom Androids he's called the Fhtagndroids, a little bit of Cthulhu-inspired vinyl madness. Sadly, all three variants have sold, but I'm sure he's got more creations in store; we'll let you know about any others that pop up in his shop! Jabba the Beett by Nathan Hamill The Deadbeet Custom Show is currently ongoing at Toy Art Gallery, and here's Nathan Hamill's piece for the show. Yes, it's a Jabba the Hutt inspired Deadbeet figure, and it works incredibly well. I love the sculptwork on the face to make it look just like Jabba, completely down to the eyes. Even Jabba's hookah is here as an accessory. I just hope Nathan's dad didn't accidentally blow up the stand it was sitting on ... Bjorn the Big Battle Star Astronaut and Johnny Tattoo by Bash Projects Two new customs to share with you from Bash Projects. First, there's Bjorn the Big Battle Star Astronaut, a secret weapon the Battle Star Astronauts who makes all hell break loose when he arrives on the scene. The Dunny is available for €230 in Bash's shop. The second is a commissioned Fatcap called Johnny Tattoo, a poor fellow who fell asleep in Bash's tattoo chair when he went for some ink. Bash doesn't appreciate that, so he gave him more than he bargained for ... and apparently took his clothes, too. Simon Belmont by KirkyMonster The third custom in this week's feature from FigureRealm, KirkyMonster has put together a spin on Simon Belmont, making him look more like his appearance in Ayami Kojima's original artwork. The body is a NECA Simon Belmont figure, the head a Resaurus Street Fighter Remy head, and the paintwork done in a brown and red style. Keeper of the Beach and Morrow Treehouse by Taylored Curiosities The latest from Taylored Curiosities are two customs featuring her Morrow creations. One is a Dudebox figure she's turned into a Morrow Treehouse, which was in the Dudebox shop but has sold. The feathers and fleecy floor kind of give it a nest-like feel. The other is Keeper of the Beach, a 4-inch Munny that serves as a swimming pool for a little Morrow fellow. This one has sculpting, painting, stitching, and needle-felting done into it, and it's based on memories of growing up in a seaside town. If you like it, it's £80 in the Taylored Curiosities shop. MF Doom Munnys and custom Hello Kitty toys by Kokeshi Clan Kokeshi Clan has put together some customs he wanted to show off. First, he's done a series of custom Munnys of MF Doom, complete with his trademark mask. It's a set of five, each in a different colorway with mics as accessories. He's also done a series of Hello Kitty customs, turning them into little ninjas. If you want either, they're in his shop. The MF Doom Munnys are US$65 and the Hello Kitty customs are US$45. Fly Girls by Jenn and Tony Bot and melodreama  Ending this week's round-up are a series of collaborative Dunnys from The Bots and melodreama. Inspired by World War II's female pilots, these five blind-boxed Dunnys are sculpted by The Bots and painted by melodreama, and each has a unique design all its own. You can pick one up for US$80 in The Bots' shop. [That wraps up this week's installment of Custom Made Monday! If you have any customs you'd like to see featured, or just spot something that's eye-catching and fits the feature, be sure to e-mail us and let us know!]

Custom Made Monday: Video games on the brain

Jun 10 // Brian Szabelski
Apollo Justice and Richard Munnys, and Blastoise Hoodie Squirtle from by tripled153 So we start things off with the usual spotlight figures, and this week, they all come from one artist. With E3 upon us, some game-themed customs fit the bill, and tripled153 has a few he's shared with us. First, there's his awesome Apollo Justice custom, appearing in his injured look, complete with his blue coat. The paint likes are a tiny bit rough in a few spots one out there, but tripled seems to be a newer entry into the world of custom toys, and for an early custom, this doesn't look too bad at all. tripled has also done a custom of Richard, the rooster-mask-wearing main character from Hotline: Miami, which marks the first time I've seen anyone do a custom ... anything from that game. I like how he's also made sure to include an appropriate amount of blood splatter (if you've never played the game ... it's pretty violent at times) and the sculpting on the rooster mask looks pretty good. Finally, and perhaps my favorite piece of the bunch, tripled has sculpted a Squirtle wearing a Blastoise hoodie. Not only does it look cool, but it makes me want to find someone to make me a Blastoise hoodie. As far as I know, this is an original sculpture, but it's too good not to post about. Rattley Stanley and Yoti Howlerton by Kasey Tararuj Attention all Munny Munth contest entrants: Kasey Tararuj is not letting her crown go undefended. The 2012 Munny Munth overall contest winner has a new duo she finished just in time for this year's contest, and they just might allow her to repeat as champ. First is Rattley Stanley, a snake oil salesman who is also a snake himself. Made from a Rooz, he comes with his wares, a trickster's grin on his face and even features a real rattlesnake tail that rattles. Love it! Her other piece is a dapper coyote named Yoti Howlerton, a 7-inch Trikky figure with real coyote teeth in his mouth. Both figures do have an old-timey character and charm to them, plus they're just fun to look at. Kid Amorphous Blob by Sekure D SekureD will be at OzComicCon in Melbourne, Australia, on July 6, and he'll be bringing some customs to the event with him. One of those is Kid Amorphous Blob, one of the many Blobs in his Codename Unknown universe that serve as the antagonists in the story. They're an army of unknown beings set on destruction of the planet and the robots that inhabit it, and this gooey looking Blob seems to have already devoured a few. Sekure is pre-selling a few of his pieces, so hit him up with an e-mail if you'd like one. General Bearends by Reet Neet New from Reet Neet is a Teddy Trooper that he's given a steampunk feel. The 3.5-inch General Bearends has some nice riveting detail on his body and a metallic bronze finish, but I think I like the gears most of all. There's just something that looks impressive seeing those mechanisms lined up inside the helmet, just wondering how they might look in motion. Sadly, I think they're just for show, but it doesn't take away from the visual. The general has found a new home, but Reet Neet is open for commissions, if you're interested. Kayaku the Musketeer by Mouse9090 Another custom by Mouse has caught my eye, and once more, it's a Tomorrow King he's given a weapon to for hunting robots. In this case, it's a musket (thus, the name: gunpowder is "kayaku" in Japanese) and the wood graining on the body of the gun is absolutely superb; if it's not made from actual wood, it sure looks like it. I also like the texturing done to the gloves to make them appear to be leather.  Fire Mundam by Josh Mayhem Josh Mayhem's last-minute Munny Munth entry is the Fire Mundam, a custom 4-inch Munny that makes me think of Wing Gundam with those huge, pink wings on the back. Using Josh's usual style of plamo parts on top of other sculpted parts and the painted Munny as a base, it's a pink bringer of doom that's availaboe for US$250. Contact Josh if you're interested in buying it. Custom Deadbeet by Jon Knox Jon Knox has recently posted a custom he's doing for the Deadbeet Custom Show, opening June 29 at Toy Art Gallery. The show will feature artist customs of Scott Tolleson's Deadbeet vinyl figure, and Jon's mashes together his rodent-like characters with Scott's spooky undead beet to create something that's not so scary at all. Most of the new sculptwork appears to be on the face, while the rest of the body has been given a more pastel palette. Try saying "pastel palette" ten times really fast. Custom Munnys by Sciurus Customs Ending this week's round-up are three customs from Sciurus Customs, all for the Munny Munth competition. First, there's a 4-inch Munny called Suki, a warrior princess with a decided Japanese style to her. I like the work done on the armor she wears, and her expression of determination (or is that a death stare at some unlucky opponent?) adds to that. The next ones on the list should be a nice treat for Adventure Time fans: it's Simon and Marcy as a duo, as well as a single 2.5-inch custom Munny of the Flame Princess. All three bear a pretty striking resemblance to their cartoon counterparts (with different proportions due to the Munny shape, of course), but I think the Flame Princess looks the best of the three. That's probably in a large part due to the additional work done on sculpting her flame-like hair. [That wraps up this week's installment of Custom Made Monday! If you have any customs you'd like to see featured, or just spot something that's eye-catching and fits the feature, be sure to e-mail us and let us know!]
