Tomopop Review: Minimates 'The Trouble with Tribbles' set photo
Tomopop Review: Minimates 'The Trouble with Tribbles' set
by Scarecroodle

Space: the final frontier to be filled up on your shelves. These are the voyages of the website Tomopop. Its ongoing mission: to explore strange new toy lines, to seek out new collectibles and new companies, to boldly let you know about really cool stuff.

One such cool line is Diamond Select Toys' Star Trek Minimates series, which recreates the characters and vehicles of the iconic Star Trek TV series in Minimate form. DST has released a few different USS Enterprise sets so far and the one we'll be looking at today is specifically based on the episode, "The Trouble with Tribbles," which introduced the concept of a tribble to both Star Trek and pop culture at large.

Full review after the jump.

Diamond Select Toys previews early 2014 releases photo
Diamond Select Toys previews early 2014 releases
by Natalie Kipper

Diamond Select Toys has really grabbed my attention with their latest list of previews, this time for items to be released in early 2014. The company has announced their first plush release, Pooka the goblin cat from Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose! The spooky familiar has lovely, leathery goblin wings on its back and comes with a winged mouse that it seems to have been captured. Including Pooka's tail, the life-size plush measures about 16 inches long. This plush will retail for US$29.99. I can't wait to buy one for myself!

Are plushies not your cup of tea? That's fine; Diamond Select has you covered. Two new sets of their popular Minimates line of figures, designed by Art Asylum, were also previewed. The first being the Marvel Minimates Ironman 3 Hall of Armor Box Set (US$50), the largest Minimates box set in ten years. The set contains 10 figures (Mark I to Mark VII suits plus the Mark 42 suit along with Tony Stark and Pepper Potts figures) displayed in an extra-long display box. The second set is the Marvel Minimates Age of Ultron box set (US$19.99), containing Iron Man, Nick Fury, Angela, and a three-armed Ultron. Each Minimates figure stands 2 inches tall with at least 14 points of articulation.

Looking for more of the classic hero look? The Marvel Select Classic Thor and Hawkeye action figures (US$24.99 each) may be more up your alley. The Thor figure was sculpted by Gabriel Marquez while Hawkeye was sculpted by Jean St. Jean. Both figures are 7 inches with 16 points of articulation. Each character has a themed base ( an asteroid for Thor and a battlefield featuring the fallen Ultron for Hawkeye) plus either Thor's Mjolnir or Hawkeye's bow and arrows.

There are also a few miscellaneous goodies for fans of Sci-Fi, classic horror, and comic book baddies. The Star Trek Electronic Battle Damaged Enterprise B (US$60), designed by Art Asylum, has features movie-accurate lights and sounds, all at the push of a button. The piece is 16 inches long and comes with an adjustable display stand. Two Universal Monsters banks, the ride of Frankenstein (sculpted by Gabriel Marquez) and the Wolfman (sculpted byEli Livingston), were also previewed. The banks will cost US$22.99 each and range in height from 8 to 9 inches, with the Bride being the taller of the two. Rounding up the previews is the Marvel Venom Metal Bottle Opener (US$18). The nearly 4 inch long tool is sculpted in the likeness of Spiderman villain, Venom. It also has magnets on the back so you can store it on your fridge for easy access.

Whew! That was quite a list. See anything you like?
