It's been quite some time since Gurren Lagann had figure news. Revoltechs were great in the early run of the series and Yoko helped to usher in the Fraulein line. Being that the character was popular over several releases and...
Unlock new "adventurers" from iconic Final Fantasy character designer Yoshitaka Amano and a new scenario from Yasumi Matsuno, designer of Final Fantasy XII. Also, Terra Battle received the highly anticipated online co-op mode update that allows players to work together to clear stages and adds summons to the battlefield.
Talk about things flying under the radar: pre-orders have opened for some spectacular dragon and kirin figures.
Produced by Kaiyodo (best known for its Revoltech line), these figures are billed as being part of the "TK Project" (or, as AmiAmi describes it, "KT Project"; not to be confused with the KY Project) which has something to do with traditional Japanese art. These figures are fully articulated and even go so far as to include eye articulation, which is pretty awesome. Less awesome is the price: the dragon is listed for around ¥7,200 while the kirin will cost you something in the neighborhood of ¥6,800.
The painted/color version of the kirin is due out in January while the "iron rust" dragon is set to follow in March. The first version of the kirin, which sports a metallic deco, was released earlier in the month and is already sold out in a few places (HLJ still has it, though). While I like the look of these figures, a combination of the price tag, an already tight budget, and the fact that Kaiyodo is putting them out has made me a little hesitant to pick them up. That said, the photos are incredible. Be sure to check out the gallery.
Revoltech Star Wars should be a hit. It's hard to believe that Revoltech line has been going for nearly 9 years and this was supposed to be the breath of fresh air that the line needed. However, there are just some thing...
We saw quite a few Star Wars Revoltech figures at WonFes. Soon Darth Vader will be at your doorstep as he has gone up for pre-order. There aren't a ton of surprises as far as the retail version goes. You have a segmented cape...
Kaiyodo's Revoltech Hello Kitty Black Skull ver is currently available for pre-order. This Day of the Dead (Dia de Muertos, not the zombie movie or its remake) themed figure comes with Joe (the mouse), an apple, and an alternate normal head. While it's a neat collectible, I'm just surprised that this version took precedence over other holidays.
Revoltech Hello Kitty Black Skull ver can be pre-ordered for ¥2,100 and is slated for an October release, hopefully in time for a Halloween or Dia de Muertos celebration.
Not wanting to be left off the Lucas gravy train, Kaiyodo has apparently added Star Wars characters to its Revoltech line. Unpainted prototypes for Darth Vader, a Storm Trooper, C-3PO, R2-D2 and a Mouse Droid were on display at WonFes alongside placards which displayed the silhouettes of Boba Fett, the Millennium Falcon, and an X-Wing.
The news that Kaiyodo is handling the license is somewhat diminished by the glut of Star Wars merchandise these days. For years, Star Wars collectibles were primarily being produced in the 3.75-inch scale by Hasbro (and Kenner before that). However, that's changed almost overnight with Hasbro moving into the 6-inch scale, Medicom's decision to add Star Wars to its MEDICOM line, Bandai of Japan apparently planning to produce samurai Star Wars figures, and Star Wars even appearing in the Nendoroid line. That's not counting the 1/6-scale figures (which have been around for a while) and Kotobukiya's Star Wars offerings.
That's not to say that these figures don't look cool. The sculpting looks to be pretty decent and Vader will apparently feature an articulated cape (unlike Hasbro's and MEDICOM's decision to use a fabric cape). The Storm Trooper (who was on display next to a Clone Trooper helmet for some reason) will provide fans with an opportunity to army build although, given that Revoltechs have been running ¥3,000+ lately, it would make for an expensive army.
I'm also surprised that one of the items Kaiyodo will be leading with is a Mouse Droid. Sure, he's just going to be an accessory (for C-3PO?), but it's still such a seemingly random choice. I'm also curious as to whether Kaiyodo will offer a ton of R2 variants, something that Hasbro has yet to do in its 6-inch Star Wars Black Series (despite having done heavily in its smaller scale line). Will we see a R2-Q2? Only time will tell.
Did I just completely miss this whole arm of Kaiyodo's corpus? I'm always awed and amazed (sometimes not in the best way) by super-huge toys. In this case, I definitely got a good impression, though. As I turned the corner, I...
Revol Mini continues to be a thing. After Kinnikuman, Solid Snake, and Iron Man Mk VI, the 4th release in the line will be Date Masamune of Sengoku Basara. Just as with the other releases, Masamune got a release in the ...
If a catalog coming out of the International Tokyo Toy Fair is to be believed, there is going to be a lot of people involved in Star Wars over the next few years. Bandai has already revealed their hand partially with S.H. Fig...

Revol Mini is a line that isn't even out yet, but it's already starting to feel old to me. Yes, there was a new version of Snake. Then it was coupled with Kinnikuman, which while he is a great figure, it's one that has been d...
