Bluefin lists out its exclusives for SDCC next week

Jun 30 // Andres Cerrato
For gunpla, we will have three exclusive models that were previously only available at events in Asia. The three kits are all in 1/144 scale and are the HGUC Zeta Plus Test Type Image Color (Amuro's) for $25.00, the RG Gundam Exia Extra Finish Version for $48.00, and the HGBF Try Burning Gundam PP Clear Version for $22.00. Perhaps the biggest draw will be the S.H. Figuarts Goku Frieza Saga version. It's the Goku you've always wanted, with an actual belt and his symbols. It's almost like the standard Goku release, just now with an extra face and gi symbols! This limited edition of Goku will be available for $45.00 alongside an 18" statue of Goku from X-Plus for $65.00. Also available will be several Action Vinyls from The Loyal Subjects. There will be a set of black/white battle damaged Ninja Turtles, a crystal MMPR Pink Ranger, and a Transformers Construction set. There's one last group of releases for comic and movie fans. Iron Man will have two items, an Iron Man MkIII Magnetic Floating figure with a chrome paint job for $139.99 and a 1/12 Shotgun Iron Man Mark XL for $160.00. In case you're wondering about those prices, they're fully poseable with LEDs throughout. If you'd like another billionaire who fights crime, on hand will be Hero Cross' Hybrid Metal Figuration Batman for $80.00. Oh, there's also an S.H. Figuarts Nise (imposter) Sailor Moon, too. She looks mean and I guess that's kinda cool.  Check out the gallery for what you can buy from Bluefin this San Diego Comic Con.

Tomopop About Town: MCM Comic Con London 2014

Nov 25 // Martin Siggers
The vast majority of the 'scene' for toy collectors at the con is the wide variety of independent stores, who cover bases as diverse as gunpla, plushes, anime figures, old toys and handmade goods. As the con has grown larger and major companies have moved in there's perhaps a slight sense that the indies have been pushed out, but there's still a whole bunch of them about, and the floor is better for it. With the success of Build Fighters and Unicorn gunpla has become a much bigger phenomenon over here in the UK, yet oddly enough Bandai weren't hawking their wares in person. Nevertheless stores picked up the slack admirably, including the impressive spread shown here. Probably the biggest name to attend in person were Good Smile Company. Once again they showed up at the show under the guiding hand of European representative Maritan, who we'll hopefully be talking to again soon. The company bought a fine array of merchandise, including several difficult to find Halloween Miku Nendoroids. Needless to say, demand was high for everything and the store was mostly cleared out by the end of the weekend. An unexpected but delightful treat was also at the GSC store, as we got a glimpse of prototypes for Nendoroid Sakura and (the then unreleased) Nendoroid Link. Maritan classified that only two each of these early production run examples had been allowed outside of Japan, with the other headed to the United States branch. Square-Enix's giant glass cabinets are a familiar sight at the convention now, but still a welcome one, and the company had bought along an army of Play Arts Kai figures, including the new DC Variant Superheroes along with the traditional avalanche of Final Fantasy stuff.  Remember how I said it was odd Bandai weren't selling Gunpla? It's especially odd because the company was actually at the con and selling other merchandise to boot. The company had a godly section of Dragon Ball Z collectibles, as well as plenty of One Piece trading figures. Bandai also had a cabinet full of achingly gorgeous Power Rangers Legacy merchandise, including Titanus, Saba and the beautiful Dragon Dagger on display here. Perhaps the most interesting toy-related thing present was the presence of an actual Ichiban Kuji auction. I have no idea how 'official' it was but it was certainly set up in the classic way - you paid £8 (about US$12) for an entry, then drew a raffle ticket with a letter on it denoting the group you'd get a prize from. I entered hoping to snag the nifty looking Madoka Magica prize figures, but ended up with an Attack On Titan hand towel covered in kanji I can't read, reminding me why I don't gamble. Overall I'd still say the Con is a great resource for collectors, although it's maybe less of a place for those of us who are 'in deep' and have our own ways to get this stuff imported in. Instead, it's a window shoppers' delight, stalls bursting to the brim with cool and exotic looking merch that will hopefully persuade many more people to pick up a box and give our hobby a go.

Tomopop LinkUP: The Girls und Painter edition

Dec 12 // Jeremy Emerje Crocker
Wooser is almost here again! Season two returns in January so that means a big product push for all things Wooser. Kahotan has posted this Belle Maison oshiruko soup set that features rubber straps of mascot Shirukuma and Wooser. They also have a pair of Wooser talking pens. Wing gave a very cryptic hint for one of their next figures. The hint is just an offset black and white image of a fleur-de-lis. They'll be doing their official reveal at Wonder Festival 2014 [Winter] in February. Disney has posted on their Insider blog a look at the creation of their Infinity game figures from sketch to final product. The post talks pretty extensively with Art Director Jeff Bunker and Lead Character Designer Jon Diesta of Avalanche Software and their roles in making the game and figures a reality. Chauskoskis appears to be in a Greasebat kind of mood as he's made two of them. Based on Jeff Lamm's characters the first is Dunny baby Greasebat that he has Jeff's OK to make a few resin castings of. The other is an evil Greasebat that is only one of a kind that he put up for auction.  Check out this amazing Iron Samurai kitbash bade by Ken Lee. Reminds me of one of those samurai from Sucker Punch. I thought that movie was kinda awful, but this is very cool! It's 1/6 scale and a nominee for the 3A Customs and Kitbashes 2013 Awards. Good luck! No, I didn't embed an ad into LinkUP. Well, I mean I did, but not for advertising purposes. Matt Hopkins of Custom Papertoys sent along this really cool commercial he worked on for the SPCA. You think stuff like this is done with CG, but it's really stop motion. Matt says he built the models and much of the stop motion.  Tenacious Toys is offering Nerviswrek's Nibirian Drone resin figures by We Are Not Toys. The terrifying little things are hand painted and sold in set of 12 for US$350. Reflective Boundary did a great gallery for Alter's 1/8 Chitanda Eru from Hyouka. I'm glad this show is still getting some great figures, it gives me hope that a second season could be on the horizon! The AmiAmi blog posted a review for the latest Vocaloid GUMI figure. The Megpoid Whisper version made by Aquamarine is in a cute outfit and the bright colors fit her perfectly. She'll be out in February. VISEone displayed six new 16 inch Qee customs at a charity event in Germany recently. His work was a big hit and he even sold one right at the event with all proceeds going to the charity.  Funko is showing off a new series of Uglydoll x DC Comics vinyl figures. Featured are Ice-Bat as Batman, Wedgehead as Robin, and Babo as Superman. They'll be out on February 11.  Ron English has a special Metallic Purple Heart Skull in his PoPaganda store just in time for Christmas gift giving. They're going for US$150 and limited to only 20.  If you've ever wanted to try your hand at building Gunpla with no idea where to start then check out this handy ebook. Mecha Model Guide for Beginners looks to be a very comprehensive guide judging from its preview were it goes deep into all sorts of terminology and even deciphers the little symbols found in the instructions. There's even modeling history in there which could make it a good read even for advanced modelers. The ever-manly Black Star from Soul Eater has gotten the HQS treatment from Tsume with this fantastic looking statue. He's only limited to 250 printed on a metal serial plate and priced at 259€ (about US$356).  Akiba Hobby has posted a review (in Japanese) of Wave's new Beach Queens Chiho from The Devil is a Part-Timer! She'll be out in 2014. Hopefully if she sells really well they'll make a second season of the anime! Tentacle Armada posted a lengthy review of Pop Culture Shock's Katana statue from Mortal Kombat. They've got an awful lot to say about this enormous figure and it sounds like it isn't without its fair share of problems.  And that brings us to the end of another Tomopop LinkUP. See you next week where we'll have another batch of great things to talk about.

Tomopop LinkUP: the Nendoroid rage edition

Dec 05 // Jeremy Emerje Crocker
Kahotan has a gallery previewing Nendoroid Yoshika Miyafuji: Shinden Ver. from Strike Witches. She's already been put up for pre-order, but if you wanted to know how this version has changed from the original here's how. Crunchyroll posted a report on a Dokidoki! PreCure event that took place in Japan in November. The big draw for the show was life-size statutes of the characters as well plush versions of the fairies. They also had a number of other statues from previous events on display. French site Ogaman has posted a gallery for Tsume's Gemini Saga figure from Saint Seiya. It's 1/6 scale and cast in polyresin so it should be a pretty solid piece. Fantastic Plastic Toys has revealed three new colorways in their Mystical Warriors of the Ring mini figure line. Their online store has three-packs of Pearlescent Blue for US$9 and Glow in the Dark for US$10. Plus they're doing their first retailer exclusive, Pearlescent Black, for Jay's CD & Hobby. Kahotan did a release gallery for Nendoroid Tohka Yatogami from Date A Live. There's also a preview of Nendoroid Yoshino as well. If it's male figures you're looking for then TeniPuri.com has a prototype preview of Kotobukiya's upcoming ARTFX J Yukimura Seiichi figure from Prince of Tennis. No real details to go by at this time aside from it being 1/8 scale. GSC held one of their live broadcasts last week and figsoku has posted screen caps. It's mostly stuff we've seen before, but we do get our first good look at figma Yukari Akiyama from Girls und Panzer. Plus there's a new look at Nendoroid Akagi and some of her accessories from Kantai Collection. Pinkcheeks posted a great gallery featuring some Nendoroids exchanging gifts for Christmas. Cute stuff! Tokyo Otaku Mode is reporting on a number of new exclusive Gundam kits coming to Gundam Front Tokyo. The four sets, all with pretty long names include HGUC RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Unit 3 Phoenix (Destroy Mode) Ver. GFT ( Limited Gold Coating), HGUC 1/144 Unicorn Gundam Unit 2 Banshee (Destroy Mode) Ver. GFT, MG 1/100 RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. 3.0 Ver. GFT, and BB Warrior Gogg & Acguy & Zock Ver. GFT Tricolor Paint. Disney posted new images of Pixar Vinylmation series 2 on their blog. They added word bubbles to each pic so give them a look. Hot Toys is showing off the latest hero to join their 1/6 Avengers movie line: Bruce Banner! You can either get him alone or in a regional exclusive two-pack with Hulk. Kixkillradio did two festive galleries featuring Cu-Poche girls celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas. Those Thanksgiving costumes are such a great idea! That's all for this week! Hope you call come back next week for another Tomopop LinkUP!
