Star Wars fan takes speeder bike to new heights

Use the force.. of lift

A Star Wars fan named Adam Woodsworth has taken the Speeder Bike sequence from Return of the Jedi and brought it to life! Combining a Power of the Force Speeder bike from Hasbro and some quadcopter technology, Adam created a small scale remote control reenactment of the flight through Endor. What's better is that he added a recon trooper with a mini camera mounted in his helmet to give people a first person view of the action.

"This project was an obvious choice to combine my interest and experience in RC (remote control) flight with my love of 'Star Wars' stuff," Woodsworth added. "I like always having some strange project on the work bench and this one was next in line, an attempt to build a version of the Imperial Speeder Bikes from the movie that I could 'get into' and fly around myself."

For those who want to experience the flight, you can take a look at the awesome footage here (or click on the video above).

And for those craftsmen who want to make your own, Andrew posted his construction specs on Makezine.com. This looks like a great project for those inclined. I'm just glad Andrew picked the flying scene from Endor instead of say, first person footage of death in a Sarlacc pit.
