So this is what you can do with leftover model runners... photo

We may have just crowned our Gunpla contest winners, but let's not stop there with Gunpla. Up until recently, I had boxes upon boxes filled with the part trees that held my pieces. Seeing no use for them, I threw them out. I can easily see a horrible joke here featuring Obidiah Stane and a particular box of scraps.

Dubbed the RG (Recycle Grade) RX-78-2 Gundam, the piece was constructed over 95 days and required over 250 man hours to complete. It stands at 3 meters tall and is made solely from runners and part trees from various Gundam model kits. The pose recreates the classic shooting scene of the end of Mobile Suit Gundam, albeit with its head attached this time.I can't imagine putting this sort of project together, let alone being able to pull it off nearly as well.

The Recycle Grade Gundam will be part of Dengeki Hobby's booth at Chara Hobby this weekend as part of Gunpla's 30th Anniversary. Stay tuned for more info as the show opens for its 2010 edition. For some shots of the construction process, check out the Gundam Art blog.

MOAR robots!:

Legacy Comments

Damn.... Musta taken a lot of kits. I've very rarely tossed my parts out, although I used to recycle them for terrain building (albeit briefly, as I probably had more stored than used).
OMG! Best gunpla ever!
I just choked on my face.
F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C IDEA!!!!!!
BBBeautiful!
so so very cool
This is more eco-friendly than Bandai's ecopla line-up! Simply awesome beyond words!
Yes, let’s call a Gundam a gigantic robot. Let’s not use the actual terminology here, but use the proper terms when there is talk of Star Wars HP2-E28.
According to Wikipedia [ E20-340 ] they are, in fact, robots 642-982. Also, most people have seen Star Wars. Seemed like a logical choice 642-359.
Good lord, it's not often that I say it but that first lady is ridiculously hot. I'd be in the same shoes as you if she asked me to do anything.

Got my Musha Mark II planned out! I think it'll catch people off guard, considering how I usually paint things. ;)

Pity there is no photo. I imagine it might look especially fetching with some fish scale sequins.

If some of us don’t quite have the time and resources to make full size clothes (!) there is potential perhaps to create a range of “Eco-Wear” clothes for our kids Action Man, and Barbie dolls..?

I have to be creative with leftovers because my husband never eats them. So if I make a whole roasted chicken one night for dinner, I'll take the rest of the meat off and make chicken enchiladas, and then take the carcass and hair transplant make chicken noodle soup.

Really cool. Although it does seem to reach 10 feet the same way that some towers try to reach tallest building...by slapping a big spire on top. How hair transplant tall is it without the arm? Just curious, though no less impressed
