Show and Tell: Revoltech XAN Black Overman's Over photo

It's hard to believe that it's now been over a year since I started to write for Tomopop (best job ever!). When I started, the first piece I wrote was on an upcoming limited Revoltech release, the XAN Black Overman Gainer.  I feel in love with it and I wouldn't let myself be held back the limitation of magazine exclusivity. After 5 months of waiting, I finally had the package crammed into my mailbox.

Did XAN meet with all of my expectations? Check it out after the jump!

When I first removed XAN from the package, I was immediately impressed with the paint job. It looked even better in my hands than it had in those photos from December. I really loved the sword, along with the knives placed on the thigh armor. The photos just seemed to have come to life that day. However, looks came to be deceiving.

When it to actually posing the figure, it was awful. I had already had a couple of Revoltechs, including the original King Gainer, and expected the same level of quality. Sadly, the design just did not lend well to the placement of Revoltech joints. The elbow joints were placed inside the lower arm, which led to some awkward positioning to get a particular stance. The knee joints would become visible whenever the figure bent. It's normally not a problem, but the knee just has a hollow gap.

Sadly, due to the odd placement of the joints, the figure has bad balance issues as well. Even the included stand doesn't really help matters much, as the ankle joints are limited in their positioning by the calves.

Ultimately, I wish this figure could have been a lot more like its brethren, the original Overman King Gainer. The original just had so much more fun in its posing and is constructed better in just about every way.

In the end, even with all of its heavy faults, I still love this figure. Even though I've kept it in a box until recently, I still think this is one of the best looking figures in my collection. I just wish that XAN would be able to literally hold up on its own.

Legacy Comments

Hey man I love this Revoltech as well. One of things about the joints is that they tried to hide them as much as possible leading to less pose-ability, but when you find a pose that works the figure doesn't even look like it has joints, anyway great review!
hmm. I haven't opened my XAN yet, but I think they're be a couple poses that will work well. The original is one of my favorite revoltechs ever.
