SDCC: Kotobukiya x Marvel mini-panel; a winner is me photo

So I showed up at the Kotobukiya booth a bit earlier than schedule and caught the tail end of what appeared to be a Q&A give away. A young man got up and answered a question. I can't even begin to tell you how sad I was when I saw him win the bishoujo Rogue. It's okay though, I made myself feel better by picking up their Comic Con exclusive Black Widow, and entered my name into their drawing to win the prototype Rogue they'll be giving away at the end of the day. Shortly after that, the mini-panel started with a few cosplayers on stage for photos. Kotobukiya Vice President, Frank Supiot took the stage and began his presentation.

Read all about it after the jump.

He began discussing the various Marvel busts they have already designed, complete with their gimmicks like metal claws, light up visors, etc. They also mentioned the three Wolverine busts they produced, including the convention exclusive X-Force Wolverine which looked pretty awesome. The new modern version of Thor was showed off, which is kind of cool. They asked that I refrained from showing some of the earlier illustrations, so sorry about that. There will also be some new Avengers fine art pieces. Expect a lot of Ironman products when the second movie rolls around.

Now for my favorite part, the Shunya Yamashita bishoujo figures. They went ahead and showed many of the sketches used in the designs, as well as several potential exclusives they might be releasing in the future. I'd love to see the more playful Rogue made into a figure, however they currently have no plans to do that. There were some alternate color treatments shown that won't be released, but we can always hope. They also showed off the Scarlet Witch sketch Yamashita drew, which hadn't been shown before. He then showed the color sketches we discussed earlier for Psylocke and Phoenix. To be honest though, it just made me want the finished product even more.

Finally, after the presentation, there was another Q&A give away, however this time I had a shot so I took to the stage. The prize was the Iron Man Fine Art Statue which had sold out at the con, and retailed for $200+. Given that it was comic trivia, I didn't feel very good going in. The question ended up being pretty obscure-- so obscure that the entire crowd thought I had chosen incorrectly. The question? Who was Spider-Man's first villian. Yeah, I know, it sounds like it'd be something easy like Doctor Octopus or the Green Goblin. It wasn't, it was Super Charger or something. I took a wild guess and walked away with a $200 statue. Not a bad deal.
