SDCC 2010: DC Direct's AmeComi line photo

For a long time, DC Direct had the market cornered on anime-inspired comic figures. Their interpretations of the characters were far from accurate, but they were all we had so it seemed almost normal to have the characters so tarted up. Now that Kotobukiya has really taken off on their Bishoujo line, it is hard not to compare the two. Where Koto manages to capture the essence of the characters in an anime art style, AmeComi looks like anime characters cosplaying as superheroes.

DC was showing off a lot of their older figures, but they had a few new ones like the alternate colorway  of Donna Troy and also the brand-new Raven. Check out all of the pics in the gallery, and let us know how you feel about DC Direct's AmeComi line!

Legacy Comments

I think you guys are looking at it entirely the wrong way. The ame-comi figures are not meant to be compared to their canon counterparts; they're meant to be stylized caricatures to be judged on their own merit. No, they don't look like the character they're based on. They aren't really supposed to. I fully intend to pick up Duela Dent, and possibly the small Harley as well, in addition to the full-size Poison Ivy I already have. I didn't really like the full-size Harley, but I do rather like the mini.
I still want that Poison Ivy. Hot damn at Raven, though. She's also a fairly strong want.

I have very mixed feelings about the line, since many of the sculpts just look awful while others are actually pretty cool interpretations.
I like Duela dent for the steampunkines, but the rest are still just horrible Ben Dunn-like gaijin mockeries of anime/manga styling.
I WANT!
Oh wow, that Jade figure, the integration and manipulation of the GL symbols on her outfit and the power battery-as-construct-hairpiece are outstanding (even if she's not part of the Corps proper). Need more pics!
That Raven is fucking awesome
There's about two of them that are decent. Thankfully, both are characters, I like.
DC figures are just fail. I don't like any of them... they're all 'off', like they're sculpted by amateurs. Oh wait.
