Say goodbye to opened blind boxes: retailers no longer allowed to sell Kidrobot open blinds photo

Blind boxes are tricky business. Often people only want a few of the designs, and don't feel like wasting money on what is essentially a lottery ticket. For some, that is the thrill of blind boxes--you never know what you are going to get, and if you are a fan of the entire series that is certainly not a negative aspect. But many retailers have catered to the people who are selective about the designs they put in their collection by selling individual pieces from a series. These pieces usually go for significantly cheaper than they would on eBay--for example, the Andrew Bell from Dunny Series 6 sold for $25 at one retailer when its price on eBay at that time was upwards of $60.

But no longer will you be able to pick up your favorite Dunny from your local vinyl store--as of January 2010 Kidrobot has declared that retailers are no longer allowed to sell open blinds. The reasoning behind this is simple. Kidrobot wants to make as much money as possible, and if people can just buy whatever Dunnys they want from other retailers they purchase less blind boxes. Of course, Kidrobot seems to have forgotten about eBay and the Kidrobot boards, where people routinely sell the more common Dunnys for much less than the cost of a box. Many of Kidrobot's customers are upset at the move, as it makes getting a full set of a series exponentially more difficult.

Retailers are also no longer allowed to sell Kidrobot products on eBay, which strikes me as a bit funny as Kidrobot themselves started out as an eBay store. But if you are dying for some open blind boxes, several retailers still have them up in their stores. Jump on these fast, as they will most likely be taken down by the end of the week!

wow the more i hear kidrobot the more i wanna puke. seriously talk about being assholes, i know they can sell their item how every they want but damn...
Ugh. Kidrobot are just getting more and more money-hungry. I'm buying Bellhedz from now on. XD
Bollocks to that -- I've always hated the concept of blind box, and hate it even more after my last foray into blind boxes, where I ended up with only duplicates of the toy I liked least in a set. Kidrobot can shove it.
Sorry KidRobot, I'm tired of gambling when I want to buy one of your blind box toys. I'll just not buy them at all now, or shop the used market.
They do realise this is gonna jack up the price for complete set sold on eBay, right..?
