The folks at Quantum Mechanix have some very impressive stuff coming out over the next few months, but perhaps nothing is as impressive as their new Enterprise Artisan Replica, featuring the Enterprise as it was seen in the 2009 Star Trek film. Standing 34" long, 15.75" wide and 7.5" high, the replica is limited to 250 pieces and is entirely airbrushed by hand with 24 colors of metallic and flat paint. The replica was created by using the CG files from Industrial Light & Magic that were also used for the 2009 film.
On top of that, the Artisan Enterprise features approximately 200 custom-built lighting effects on almost every part of the ship, and it comes with a remote control that lets you adjust the lighting as well. There's also a 5.25" mirrored base that comes with plaques that include the ship's name and edition number. And this call comes in a foam-padded, hand-built wooden crate exactly like the "apple crates" used by the studios for shipping and storing filming props. Yeah, it's crazy.
The new Enterprise Artisan Replica will be available starting Monday, and it's certainly not cheap: the price for one of these is US$4,995. Having seen this at San Diego Comic Con, though, I can tell you that the detailing on this replica is pretty amazing. It's not for the non-serious collector, and the folks who do decide to purchase one of these are going to be very impressed. I just pray for my sake they never get around to doing the Enterprise-D, or I'm gonna be heading to the bank for a loan ...
