Pre-order To Aru's Accelerator but you should stay clear

8:00 AM on 05.30.2012 // Jonathan Tubbs

Accelerator from To Aru no Majutsu no Index II is an unexpected release from ALTAiR, the male line of figures by the amazing ALTER, but the more males, the better. However, let's not beat around the bush on this one. Unfortunately, "amazing" is word that is not coming out of your mouths.

I've only seen a handful of episodes of Index II and even I have to agree that there's something off about Accelerator. Well, we already know he's off but I mean the design of the face on this 1/8-scale figure. It just doesn't seem to convey that crazy look. Sure, he has the eyes and the smirk but it doesn't say "this guy is off his rocker". It just looks like he's making a silly face at me. Also, sure, Accelerator has the rubble base but we've seen bases similar to this already from ALTER multiple times for their figures. How about mixing it up with something else in there? Yeah, you have the iron bars but what about some other objects from the street or building that was destroyed in this boy's path? Just to give it a little variety than "rocks".

I can't argue that it's great to see more male figures being produced but just like any other figure, there will be times that it can be plagued by that one that just doesn't cut it. ALTAiR's Accelerator looks to be that one so far. If you're not so critical of this figure, you can pre-order him today at a retail price of ¥7,800. Look for him to come out in October, 2012.
