Power-Con/ThunderCon 2012 wrapped up last weekend and apparently had at least one major announcement: that Matty Collector is considering releasing a Castle Grayskull in scale with their Masters of the Universe Classics line (something I previously mentioned as being prohibitively expensive). "The Castle Grayskull Experiment", as it's been dubbed, is Mattel's second and increasingly more bizarre attempt at a pre-order. Matty will be asking for US$200 (not including shipping) upfront for a Castle Grayskull it has yet to actually design.

As crazy as Matty's latest get-rich-quick scheme may sound, I imagine that it will enjoy considerably more support than the (tragically) failed Young Justice pre-order. And, to be fair, Mattel will have some design artwork and the "full details" at NYCC even if they aren't planning on building a prototype prior to meeting their (once more unstated) pre-order commitment. Should the pre-order target be met, Castle Grayskull is expected to ship in Fall 2013.

The associated slides from Matty Collector's panel are available in the gallery (in addition to being used in the header). The slides are shockingly amateurish, looking like something slapped together half an hour before the show, and even includes a typo ("Do to huge amount" rather than "Due to huge amount") but, given that these came from Matty's Facebook, I imagine that they must be genuine.

As nutty as the whole thing sounds, I'm half-considering placing an order before I've even seen the concepts. Castle Grayskull is easily among my most fondly remembered childhood toys (as I imagine is the case for a good many people) and I would love to have an updated version despite only being a minor collector of the Masters of the Universe line. The only thing potentially  stopping me would be space issues, given that it should be fairly large. Anybody else thinking of buying into Matty's plan?
