Custom Delights: Phu!'s Sonic

9:24 AM on 08.12.2008 // Brian Szabelski

It was recently announced that Phu! would be part of ToyQube's 4th Anniversary Party in New York City, becoming one of 50 artists to put their own spin on Keith Poon's Sharky vinyl piece. What wasn't expected, though, was how Phu! turned a shark into the amazing rocket ship piece you see above you, Sonic.

Standing 8 inches long, Phu!'s latest creation mixes Sharky with brass rivets, broken toy parts, cardboard, cable ties, plastic bottle caps, wire, screws and many other every day items. On top of that, Sonic comes with one of Phu!'s 2-inch Rebel Pilot figures. To be bluntly honest, if you hadn't told me that this was originally a Sharky vinyl piece, I never would have guessed it was.

If you're in the New York City area, you can check out Phu!'s Sonic and the other 49 customized Sharky vinyl pieces at Sullivan Room (218 Sullivan St., New York, NY) on Friday, August 15 at 10 p.m. In addition to being on display, Sonic will also be for sale at the show. For more of Phu!'s awesome creations, you can use the search function here on Tomopop or venture to Phu!'s blog, Vinyl Is The New Canvas.
