Pegasus Hobbies' Kothoga will remind you to not do drugs photo

Ah, the Kothoga monster, a horrible victim of drug abuse and star of the 1997 sci-fi/horror box office flop known as The Relic. Given that the film's box office numbers were around half its budget, you'd hardly expect to be getting another piece of Kothoga merchandise yet here we are.

For those  who haven't seen the film (and I wouldn't recommend that you do), it's about the environmental impact of a South American herb used in religious practices (not condoned for medicinal use!) that mutates the things that ingest it into something bigger and quite a bit more monstrous. As luck would have it, a shipment of these herbs (along with various relics from the region) arrives at a museum the same night as a fundraiser and soon we have a large, reptilian monster slaughtering trapped yuppies. The actual monster design (when you actually see the full thing) is rather disappointing; basically it's just a computer-generated over-sized lizard with a rather distinct(ly ugly) head.

Pegasus Hobbies is bringing you two ways to get your daily dose of monster: kit form or as an already fully completed model. The complete version features some color on the Kothoga monster while I believe that the kit features unpainted green plastic. Both formats likely include the same stand (which features part of a rope fence) and a placard.

While I think that this 1/12 Kothoga monster collectible looks decent enough, it seems a bit expensive. Expect the completed version to run you US$50 (with the kit being a little less) when it comes out in October.
