I always liked Asuka a bit more than Rei, though I'm sure it had a bit more to do with her flowing red hair than anything else. In all honesty, I never took the time to actually watch the series when I was younger, so it was arguably the result of a red-head fetish I had going on, but I think I've gotten over that for the most part.
That's also probably why I don't really care if figures aren't true to the character they're suppose to portray. Much like Shunya Yamashita's Rei, New Line's Asuka probably fits that description. Instead of the fiery personality she has during most of the series and subsequent movies, we have her sitting on a stool, dressed for bed.
What I love about this one is the cute shirt she's sporting with the word "Piano" written on it, and the adorable little rag doll and chair that match it. What I don't love is the price. $165 is way too much in my opinion. Sure it's a 1/5.5 scale cold cast, but it doesn't really strike me as something I just have to have.
If you're a big enough Evangelion fan to be able to look past the uncharacteristic presentation--or simply don't care, like me--with money to spend, you can pre-order it from Hobby Search today. You'll have to wait until January before you can lay your hands on her though.
