In the most depressing bit of news that I've heard in a while, apparently NECA will base their decision on whether to release to continue their Gremlins on their series 2 sales. And they word it funny:

"We’ve just made these awesome Gremlins Series 2 action figures, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with how they came out. We’d love to follow-up with a sequel to our Mogwais Series 1 figures, but it’s time to let the people speak.

We’re putting out Gremlins Series 2, and we have Mogwais Series 2 scheduled for the end of summer 2012, but whether or not we do more depends on the response we get on this series."

At first glance, it looked like they may not even run with the series 2 Mogwai (given their talk of a follow-up to series 1) but in the next breath suggest it might affect things later down the line. Either way I'm disappointed by NECA's decision especially since they're hinging the fate of their line on seemingly less popular characters. Gremlins series 2 (which apparently releases soon) includes the Lenny Gremlin (somewhat essential), the Opera Gremlin, and the "Brown Gremlin" (who apparently comes with a cigarette and sunglasses). I expect that the Mogwai series 2 (Mohawk, Daffy, "combat" Gizmo) will do better (and not just because I'm buying all three) since they're more essential characters.

My biggest concern at the moment is Stripe's future. NECA has shown off his Mogwai prototype at quite a few cons and it looks amazing. I would hate to see the line canceled before I could get my hands on it. Plus there's still that glorious Spider-Mohawk...
