I honestly want to tell you that I'm in complete love with this piece. Unfortunately, that's not something I can do with a straight face. Neither can Storm here for that matter. Today we received the color prototype of the Marvel Bishoujo edition of Storm. While I can say they got the body right, there's a whole lot of distraction elsewhere for me.
Let's start with the face. I know the faces of the Bishoujos aren't to look exactly like those of the original comics, but I don't see anything in that face that reminds me of Storm. Her facial expression looks like a malnourished Snooki and I can't unsee it for the life of me. Also, the electricity on her hands looks like they just slapped a ring on it and called it a day. It just looks really cheap and I know that Kotobukiya can do much better than this. One last quip is that the base just seems a bit hokey and there just to have something. I don't think it would have tilt or leaning problems, but I imagine some would be weary.
I do need to note the positives of this figure, though. Her flesh tones and sculpt are just about perfect. I'm really impressed by the job they did here. The costume is fantastic and the black gloss, which usually doesn't work for me, could possibly negate the rest of the critiques I have on this. All that said, I'll pass final judgment when it's released. Until then, I'm hoping that some things can be fixed so that this release can be as great as it should be.
