Nostalgia can be such a powerful thing. Back in the day I remember collecting video tapes of Martian Successor Nadesico and watching them religiously! Even now, it still rates highly as one of my favourite shows of all time. Except for the movie which does not exist! Now, for no obvious reason (the Blu-ray collection was released in Japan early this year), MUSASHIYA have decided to re-release some old garage kits of main heroines Misumaru Yurika and Hoshino Ruri. And when I say old, I mean OLD!! On the plus side, these releases will be cold casts so no painting or assembly is involved but they do show how far the hobby has come over the years.
Yurika will be in her swimsuit which was seen in episode 19. For those of you who have seen the series, that was one of the more memorable episodes where the ship ran a beauty contest to decide the next captain. As for Ruri-Ruri, she will be depicted wearing a yukata which is pretty much based on some artworks. She's also much older than she was in the TV series so we'll just have to assume that is what she will look like when she grows up. (The movie does not exist, do you hear me?)
Both are available for pre-order at Hobby Search (Yurika, Ruri) and AmiAmi (Yurika, Ruri) and are due for a late February release. I doubt they will be very popular however, due to their high cost. ¥17,800 is rather steep for these two, and nostalgia only goes so far... Now, I think I'll dig out my DVD set and watch some Nadesico! Maybe I'll even dig out the manga drawn by the artist who's a big Batman fan and draws characters with really big noses, Kia Asamiya. Huh? What movie?
