It's been teased pretty much since the beginning of the Takara Tomy Transformer 2010 campaign. Transformers 2010 is the Japanese title to the third season of the Transformers series following the events of the 1986 animated movie. The Masterpiece line of larger, detailed figures of popular, original characters has seen few in the way of new molds due to costs. So it's exciting and refreshing whenever a new mold is announced. Especially of the former "hot rod", Rodimus Prime.
ACToys has a forum post running covering the Chinese Transformers convention, Cybertron Con, where it was rumored that Masterpiece Rodimus Prime would show up. Sure enough, he did. In prototype form. Unfortunately it's hard to judge the figure do to the robot himself being just a printed photo and only getting a look at his trailer turned battle station. The trailer is definitely staying true to its original toy form in the way it transforms into a dual cannon battle station. Can't say much about Rodimus Prime's vehicle and robot mode so we'll just have to wait and see.
Big Bad Toy Store is taking preorders for the figure at $199.99 which is only an estimate. The store does not have exact pricing details and state that it may be lower than what they are currently advertising once officially announced. So the question is get the Japanese Masterpiece version or hope for a release in the United States? I'm wondering about that due to Rodimus Prime having that trailer.
