LEGO unleashes their massive Super Star Destroyer this September photo

LEGO's biggest models are known for, well, being big and amazingly detailed, but this one kind of blew me away when I first heard about it on Twitter. On September 1, LEGO is releasing a 3,152 piece set for the Super Star Destroyer Executor, Darth Vader's personal flagship from the Star Wars films. It's 50" long (124.5 cm) and weighs nearly 8 pounds (3.5 kg). For reference, that's about the height of an average 10-year-old boy and nearly the weight of a small bowling ball. Holy smokes.

The LEGO set comes with a display stand and data sheet label, a center section that lifts off to reveal the command center, and includes 5 minifigures: Darth Vader, Admiral Piett, Dengar, Bossk and IG-88. There's no official price listed yet, but several sites including IGN are reporting it at US$400. It'll be available at shop.LEGO.com and at LEGO Stores. Also, hit the jump for a short video featuring the Super Star Destroyer. I'd totally buy this ... if I had the money and the place to display it!

MOAR Star Wars:

Legacy Comments

Oo

Ginormously outrageous, tbh. I do hope that they'll sell Dengar, Bossk, and IG-88 separately at some point. Then again, it's crazy seeing Bossk look so short.
I love these massive lego sets, but I really haven't figured out a way to justify the price. I've wanted Lego Archtecture's Falling Water for a long time, but I really can't justify plopping down $100 for it. To each their own I guess. And Lego and Star Wars is still the best combination ever.
Ya, these huge collector's version sets are super awesome, but the price, eesh. I'd rather spend the $400 on the death star. But still, nonetheless, much props to the designer. This looks absolutely fantastic.
Honestly I think it's TOO small. The ISD #10030 was 3' long. This one is only 4' But the real SSD was 5x larger than the standard ISD. So really, there's no way you could get an accurate (15') SSD. But slapping on another 2 feet would have bolstered the length greatly, and quite honestly, the affordability would have changed minimally.
