James May's LEGO house demolished by authorities, may the sad face commence photo

Just earlier this month I brought word to you of an amazing house being built of LEGO by Top Gear presenter James May, unfortunately the newest bit of news is not so happy. The authorities of Dorking, Surrey in the UK have become the big brother that kicked down your LEGO castles, and are now tearing down the fabulous LEGO house.

Sadly it was built without the proper permits, and a buyer that was set to own the house bowed out. Now, it is being dismantled and the pieces will be broken down into much smaller ones and eventually donated to children's charities where they are hoping the house will be rebuilt into 100,000 space villages.

It's unfortunate to see such an amazing creation knocked down, but hopefully it will be able to be rebuilt and remnants of the fantastic house will remain all over the country, or perhaps even the world. I would have loved to have gotten to check it out first hand, but now those who have will be few and far between. Let's just hope next time someone gets an awesome idea like this they make sure to take out the right permits.

If it's an issue with safety permits, maybe it's understandable. Still kinda sucks that so mch effort went into it BEFORE the authorities decide to step in. I mean, what, nobody pays attention to coloured brick houses as they're being errected anymore?
really lame. you think they could do some post building permit. its bbc and legos, right?

Lego cat!
3rd post, i don't see any sort of permit slant anywhere else. just seems like no one wanted it for free, just paying 50k uk$ to move it.

As syncopatedID said, they waited until he finished work on it to inform him that he failed to apply for the proper permits? I know I'd be pissed to to see some guy just hammering away at something I spent so much time building...

And c'mon, it's not like he was having orphans move in. The guy was just living out our childhood fantasies of building a house made of Legos that you could actually go into.

It's official: The British hate fun.
WHY THEY DO THIS? :(
That's so sad. I would like that lego jug.
Start playing Adaigo's Strings.... :O(

Let's hope and pray for permits the next time a Lego house goes up.
