You may not know the name Satoshi Toda, but if you've followed Tomopop for any amount of time you've most certainly seen his work. He's the sculptor behind Solid Theater's Saber Alter, several of Gift's Sabers including Lily and Extra, and a number of other figures that aren't from the Fate series like Phantom's Ein. Gift is now bringing another one of Toda's garage kits into the pre-painted PVC world with their release of Madoka Magica's Homura Akemi!

This 1/8th scale figure is getting a pretty mixed reaction from fans of the series. On one hand it's a very striking figure with a very lively pose, fine details throughout her clothes, and enough paint to make every seam of her clothes pop. On the other hand some people are taking serious issue with the likeness. While the outfit is accurate enough the face isn't that of the Homura that we all know and love. But hey, it's not supposed to. This isn't supposed to be Homura right out of the anime, nor is it some sort of attempt at doing a realistic version of her, it's simply Homura in the style of Toda. 

It's an honor that only some sculptors achieve after years of dedication to their craft, being able take a well known character and see them produced for the public in their own vision, just like BOME, APSY, and Yamaguchi before him. And like with any artist there's going to be some works you like and some you don't, but personally I rather like this one. If you like her as well you can look for pre-orders to hit late tonight.
