Ghostbusters Retro-Action Peter Venkman by Mattel brings back the good ol' days photo

"I ain't 'fraid of no ghost!"

Like me, you probably grew up with the Ghostbusters movie, and then later, its sequel. You might also recall the various spin-offs and merchandise associated with the franchise, namely, a cartoon series called The Real Ghostbusters. This is where Mattel takes its inspiration for its brand new Retro-Action Peter Venkman figure.

The figure is 8" tall, and instead of bearing a likeness of Bill Murray, it instead looks like the cartoon version of the character (and mind you, none of the cartoon versions looked much like the live action actors). Here, Mattel has combined the nice card art of the 1980s cartoon along with the aesthetics and styling of the 1970s Mego figures. This makes Venkman look like your dad just dug it out of his attic from when he was a kid rather than it having been yours.

I think the retro style is really cool, and sometimes it's nice to see a company pay tribute to an older style. After all, just because something's old doesn't make it bad. This figure is sure to be nostalgia inducing for all and costs an affordable US$20.99. Now excuse me while I go dance to the Ghostbusters theme.

$20.99? I'm guessing that's the BBTS listing?

I'm really digging the headsculpt but the Retro Action lines don't appeal to me (mostly the ones with bulkier outfits, I guess...). I caved on the Lex Luthor, since it was kinda cute, but haven't seen a lot of charm to the series.
Ah, maybe some day. I say that because I'd want all four of them, and really, that's just... a bit too much within the boundaries within the near future. I still love The Real Ghostbusters. Well, the better-written ones. The voice actors still managed to pull it off flawlessly somehow.
Yes, I liked the look of the characters in the cartoon far more than their movie counterparts although Ray and Egan are awesome in all continuities.
