I've made mention of the fact that I'm no fan of Evangelion's seemingly most popular character, the enigmatic Rei Ayanami. I like my characters with a little more emotion and a human side to them, and Rei, like other characters based off of her archetype, is just a little too flat for me.

Imagine my surprise, then, at the sight of this new resin kit from Amie Grand, coming out as soon as this August! It takes everything I dislike about Rei--the Evangelion school uniform, the emotionless expression--and does away with it to end up with a very attractive little design.

Rei's now been gothed up a little, with lacy thigh highs and an appropriate amount of accessorizing without being overbearing. She's also even been granted the barest hint of a smile, a little detail that goes miles towards humanizing her usually bland persona. Completing the image, she's equipped with a rather sizable cross to lean against. Of course, none of this comes as a completed model, so if you've got the dough and the skill, she might make a worthy project to spend time putting together!
