Gear up for Garage kits with Tokyo Hunter for Treasure Festa In Ariake 5 photo

Treasure Festa, the second biggest event for garage kit makers, is coming up very soon (next Thursday, in fact!) so we will soon get a chance to see more garage kits and other figures from the event. But if you're a GK maker, it's always best to try and make arrangements before the event to try and get them at the best prices possible, as I explained in a previous feature.

Well, Tokyo Hunter is here to give builders a helping hand by taking some orders for kits which will be available at the event. Of course, this is but a small selection of kits which will be available from only a few circles who will be present but they should be enough to get your interests up!

Hit the jump for the breakdown of the kits which the team are currently offering.

To place an order, simply go to the Tokyo Hunter website and place an order. Sadly, they aren't up on the main page so you'll have to put your orders through their request system. Just remember to meniton the circle, series and name and you should be fine!

The Ari and Haruka kits look particularly nice but I think I'll sit back from the buying this time around. I have more than enough to be getting on with, with one project which has been sitting around for almost 18 months coming close to completion! Still, I'm looking forward to the event coverage and I hope to see some surprises which will really impress me at the event. What about you, readers? Have these kits caught your attention and will any of you be buying some? (not likely, I know. But I thought I'd ask anyway!)

MOAR Treasure Festa:

Legacy Comments

Kinda keen to know what an experienced GK builder sees and thinks when they look over these. Are you looking at how the figure'll break down into parts, how challenging or fun it looks to build?
Somehow, I know if I owned a flying vacuum cleaner it too would be covered in Sanrio stickers!

Well, it varies from person to person and I wouldn't paint myself as "experienced" but my selection criteria is long and arduous.... Actually, it's probably very similar to everyone elses when they look at PVC figures to buy.
Firstly, it has to grab my attention. If it passes me by at a glance with a shrug, then it's not worth my time (though it's probably best to note that my bar is set rather high). The rest is just a personal litmus test. "Do I know the series it's from?" "Do I know the character?" Is the pose befitting of the character?" etc. That last one is also one big reason why I hate BRS and the merchandise associated with it for the exact opposite reasons given in the BGS figma review. A character with no history has no... well, character! As a result, it's impossible to tell if the pose for the figure is befitting of who the character is or what they are trying to do. Yes, you can make up the backhistory yourself to fit the figure, but that's nothing more than writing up your own self satisfying fanfiction. You could make up stuff that says that all the BRS figures are magical girls trapped in some DBZ fighting tournament if you were so inclined! And you could make them all pretty boys while you were at it!

At the very bottom rung of priorities, we have cost and difficulty. Unless you're fighting for a kit in an auction, prices tend to be around the same ballpark so if you don't think the kit is worth that much, then it wouldn't have gotten past the preliminary selection. And difficulty doesn't factor in at all. If it looks difficult, then it'll just take longer to paint. But if you want it, then you're going to get it and test yourself.
If the kit looks fun, then it's a big bonus but it's not something that would tip the scales of a possible purchase.
