Recently, MegaHouse unleashed a good deal of new figures available for pre-order from its popular G.E.M line. Among the different array of choices, was a very familiar face, Sakata Gintoki from the hit manga/anime series Gintama. As one of the earliest additions to MegaHouse's line of male figures, Gintoki was originally released back in August of 2009. His increasingly soaring popularity has prompted MegsHouse to release him on four different occasions. That's quite an impressive feat for a male figure.

The sculpt was created by Moriwaki Naoto, who I believe has managed to brilliantly captured that side of Gintoki's carefree personality. Dressed in his usual black shirt and pant attire along with his white and blue patterned yukata, Gintoki may be posed with his wooden sword or a handy fork. The wooden sword itself has Touyako (Lake Touya) inscribed on the handle for added detail. Wooden sword aside I love his face, especially those "dead fish eyes" as Hijikata would say.

I own the original 2009 release, and I can tell you, it's one of my favorite figures to date. The 1/8 scale Yorozuya Dana (boss) is set to release this November with a retail price of ¥6,600.
