Papercraft, when intricate and composed of billions of tiny pieces, is a thing of wonder to behold; on this we all agree. But when a really basic design combines with the surreal, or simply morosely hilarious, papercraft is truly at its best. Papercraft artiste Marshall Alexander is a man that understands this.
On his site you'll find a bevy of foldable designs, of which my personal favorite is his Foldskool Heroes series by dint of his chestburster design alone. Taking a concept like "burrowing alien larvae explodes from your chest in a spray of gore the likes of which will leave those who witness it scarred forever" and making it innocuous, and even cute, takes artistic chops of a delightfully demented bent. The kind of cute/crazy that we at Tomopop are all too happy to encourage.
