Figures you wish you hadn't missed:Phantasy Star's Nei and Rika

Sure, the figure above lacks the level of detail and finesse that we are accustomed to in modern figure releases, but for god's sake, it's Nei from Phantasy Star II! Thanks to my involvement with the retro games podcast RetroforceGo!, I've had the pleasure of interacting with many listeners and sharing our memories of the games we loved. One of those fans sent me in the direction of Phantasy Star Cave, where I found pictures of these old figures I wish I hadn't missed.

This Nei is from the Sega Gals 1 gashapon toy collection, and believe it or not, can still be bought as part of the set, if NCS is to be believed. As for the second Nei and the Rika in the gallery, both look to have been shown off at an event, but I was unable to scour up any other info about them. I'm not so much a fan of the second Nei as the face does not resemble her, but I love the look of the Rika.

Of course, if you are a fan of the later generations of Phantasy Star games such as Phantasy Star Online and Phantasy Star Universe, there's no trouble finding figures of your favorite characters as they are still plentiful on auction sites. For those of us with a soft spot for the girls of the vintage Phantasy Star titles, we'll just have to hope that one of these old figures pops up on Ebay (or possibly just create our own).
