February's Monthly Megapixel theme: Birthdays

First off, I want to wish Tomopop a very happy second birthday! Obviously, this occasion is the inspiration for February's Monthly Megapixel theme: Birthdays. This month's Megapixel theme is linked to a huge contest that we're running throughout February. Check out the contest post for the full details. The summarized version goes like this: create a Megapixel blog to wish Tomopop a happy birthday and you could be one of four prize-winners. The grand prize is a $150 worth of credit at Big Bad Toy Store.

Hit the jump for some ideas to get you started. Special thanks go to Arbalest, one of our newest community members. The header pic was from Arb's Megapixel blog which was posted yesterday. Now that's enthusiasm!

First let's just attack the idea of birthdays in general. Having a birthday party for one of your toys would be a great idea. Who would it be for? Who would show up? Who wouldn't show up? Who wasn't even invited and now wants to crash the festivities? Photo-stories have been really popular, so I'm sure you can come up with some great ideas there.

Maybe non-fiction is more your style. You could write a photo essay describing the best toy you ever received as a birthday present. Take photos of it, if you still have it hanging around. I know that I'd be interested to hear about those.

I like the idea of a birthday-themed custom figure. If you're crafty and into modifying vinyl toys, this would be a cool way to appear on the front page.

If you're entering the Tomopop Birthday Contest, I've got some ideas for you as well. You could take photos of your figures wishing Tomo a happy birthday. How about something similar to a wedding video where each figure talks to the camera and sends their wishes. Maybe shares a funny or embarrassing story. I love that idea. Somebody run with it.

You could wrap up a toy and shoot it in a time-lapse style as the wrapping comes off and reveals the gift inside.

Did Tomopop introduce you to a figure that you needed to run right out and get? How about writing a story from the toy's perspective telling how happy they are that their life was changed because of the site. Make sure to include the pictures. Photos of it spending time with you would be a great way to highlight that article.

Be creative and have fun. These are the most important things here. Let your imaginations sore. As always, you folks are incredible and I can't wait to see what you come up with!
