Encore Fortress Maximus and Devastator pre-orders start
Generation 1 of The Transformers certainly had some interesting toys that folks like me never did have a chance of owning while growing up. A couple of popular and most desired ones include the 1985 Devastator, the first combining team, and the 1987 ginormous Headmaster leader Fortress Maximus. ...well, as a kid I remember wanting these. Luckily TakaraTomy has made plans to release these figures and pre-orders are now open! Actually, Devastator was already released as Encore 20 so TakaraTomy is re-releasing the figure as something different. Originally thought to be a re-release as his Generation 2 colors, fans were surprised to find out this is a retooling of the figure. Encore 20A Devastator Animation Color Ver. features more animation accurate colors along with a head to match his cartoon counterpart. I'm actually disappointed by this since this is a unique version and I already own Encore 20. With its January, 2013 release date and a retail price ¥11,000, I'll just have to settle for the one that is actually from my childhood. Drats? However, I can let that slide since TakaraTomy is also re-releasing one of the many great Transformers figures that I'm sure many fans have been drooling over for years. Encore 23 Fortress Maximus is one of those figures that leaves an impression on you. Standing at about 2 feet tall, this gimmick laden toy also featured the only Headmaster figure to have its head on form to also transform into the head of this grand figure. Don't expect this figure to come cheap, unfortunately. Encore 23 Fortress Maximus is retailing for ¥29,800 with a release set for February, 2013. On top of that price tag, I dread the shipping cost on this fellow. So a unique encore from Devastator and a grand encore from Fortress Maximus. One of the great times to be a Transfomers fan. I'm looking very much forward to getting Fortress Maximus ever since seeing him at a Goodwill over 20 years ago. I'm going to start pinching those pennies! How about you?
